Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

The fourth season is the last chance to taunt people about DSC having a short run. Once you get into the 5-to-7 season range, it's not as fun anymore. Because fans of the show like myself will say, "Yeah, the show had its run, it lived its life." But when it's four seasons or less, it's a different story... So that's why haters of the show will dig in while they still can.

I'd say, "If you don't like it don't watch it, and then it won't matter how long or short it runs", but let's get real here, you're not going to do that. You'll stick with the show to the bitter end. Which, arguably, makes you as dedicated as any of us. Congratulations on being a Dedicated Disco Viewer.

Char Kais is a person with a mission: link to pinned twitt. The discussion might not make sense. By the way, this person should be thanked for a nice list of people to block on Twitter in discussions about DSC.

Wait, SMG is a producer now?

We're getting more Picard to enjoy regardless. The gap between S4 and S5 of DSC will be larger and they're shooting Picard S2 and S3 back-to-back. I think we'll get the third season PIC before the fifth season of DSC.

I’d be disappointed but not the end of the world if Disco ends. Much more Trek to come. I still think we’ll get a season 5 though.

TBH though, they are setting up various breadcrumbs to suggest the series might end and another successor series will take its place.

Tilly leaving the ship was the biggest hint yet, but various things in the first episode - like the President lecturing Michael on leadership, and the mention of the Voyager-J, could be read as tells.

I could see the season ending with Michael making the heroic sacrifice, with most of the remainder of the cast transferring to the Voyager J, with Saru as captain.

Star Trek Strange New Worlds season 2 (codename Lily and Isaa) is listed on Production Weekly and IATSE and it will start production on February 01 2022.

Star Trek Discovery season 5 is not listed.

Mary Wiseman has a Broadway theater gig in March and early-to-mid April. Disco's probably just not going back to filming until later than usual. The rush is no longer there.

Right. But does anyone know how what’s the longest running streaming show currently? Stranger Things is getting a fourth season and I can’t recall if there’s been one that’s run longer.
Orange Is the New Black ran seven seasons. It was a Netflix Original.

Paramount+ used to be CBSAA and I assume CBS has the resources to keep a show going as long as they like. There's nothing forcing them to end a series after a few seasons. And it's known within the Star Trek community that anything less than seven seasons has a stigma. This is a perception I assume Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise are also aware of.

On Netflix the record is 7 seasons, I believe, with Orange is the New Black having completed their run already, and Grace and Frankie ‪‪is currently on a break during their 7th.

Being that they’re the longest running streaming service with originals, ‪‪I assume these are the longest overall.
