Yeah, it's not like the words "Mythbuster Episode!" are in the thread title...

    Oop, wait, :D

I am unfamiliar with the show so I did not interpret it as such.

It's a great show. I highly recommend seeking out some episodes online. Here's one folks here might enjoy (Start at 4:28):

Thank you for the recommendation. As with most things, comedy in text form can sometimes be missed without context clues.

Except you're forgetting that when one transporter goes out, nobody ever thinks to jog down to another one. You can say "well the SYSTEM went down."

But then there's Wink of an Eye again...

    [Transporter room]

(Scott is in the doorway of the room, as the Scalosians try to fix the transporter.)
EKOR: There's nothing wrong elsewhere, sir. Sufficient energy for beaming down.
RAEL: This is the only damage? Go get the others and bring them up here. (into comm.) Deela. Deela? Deela!

Kirk pulled a widget out of the console. The dialog makes it clear that there's nothing wrong with the system. These guys were able to adapt this transporter to work faster, so why not trot down to the other transporter room(s) and just make the same adjustment?

Most obvious answer: there are no others.

The on screen evidence supports only one transporter. Unfilmed documentation, sequel productions and fan speculation created additional. None of that changes the original series as filmed and broadcast. That's what counts, not documents or production staff wish lists.

    As @Captain Tracy said upthread:
"While multiple transporter rooms makes more sense, one transporter room makes for much better stories."

    As Connor MacLeod said:
    "There can be only one!"

They only brought enough parts with them to modify one...which they figured would be sufficient, since there are only five of them. ;)

I like to think of it as being fifty-something years into a continuous diagnostic cycle...

Most threads probably. And as a group, we do seem to be a fickle bunch when it come to behind-the-scenes info.

That's not a bug of this forum, it's a feature.
