I signed up for Netflix just for Discovery, but my watchlist is now of mammoth proportions. Signed up for Disney+ for the Mandalorian, ditto. I will sign up for Paramount+ when it launches in the UK for Trek and expect to find other stuff as well.
I will probably sign-up to Paramount Plus for Trek but fear I will spend rest of my life bingeing all the CSI series...
Canada kind a feels backwards. We have very little streaming only series. I can watch all of the ones I like on a Canadian TV channel. All of the new Trek airs on TV here. Of all the shows I currently watch, Flash is Netflix only, but I get the American CW channel with my cable package so I watch it there, since it doesn't pop onto netflix until the next day.
Might be backward, but I know I sure find it convenient a lot of streaming shows are available on actual TV here in Canada. Though, I have to be honest, the marketing model for Canada's Paramount+ outlet is a very confusing one. In Canada, none of the Paramount+ original shows are actually on Canadian Paramount+ but rather on broadcast TV, like the Star Treks on CTV Sci-Fi or even other streaming services, like The Stand, which in Canada is on Amazon Prime. As much of a dick move what happened in Europe with Disco sounds, I can at least understand it from Paramount's perspective, even if it is a greedy perspective. I really don't understand the rationale behind how the Canadian Paramount+ operates.
Now recanted! Season Four starts in all countries that already have Paramount+ on Friday! Yay. (Pluto TV in countries still waiting for Paramount+.) For Canada, I seem to recall that part of the reason(s) DSC - and other Trek made in Canada - continue on Crave is due to Canadian tax benefits re "local content"?
Well, bummer. Poland doesn't have Paramount+ and we might not even get it in 2022. edit: thanks for the mention of Pluto TV, never heard of it! edit 2: of course, it's not available in Poland. It really seems kinda weird to just decide you no longer need money from a country with 38 million people.
Well, only Discovery and SNW film in Canada. Since Paramount+ is owned directly by Viacom, they'll probably make more money back on it then being on a third party service. It's all about the money.
But the fact is that they have just blocked the possibility for people in Poland and many other countries to pay them money, even indirectly (i.e. via some third party service), in exchange for Discovery. So, in those countries, they deliberately went from above zero to zero. (With the added bonus of alienating the fans.) How does this make sense?
And, of course, Pluto TV is owned by ViacomCBS so they will make money from Discovery through increased ad revenue as it will attract more viewers.
What happens if you go on the website outside the "proper" areas? Is it region-locked? When I tried the website I was shocked that the show was immediately playing. No signing up and giving away my postcode as ITVplayer and More4 insist upon.
I remember that when TOS started airing in the UK, it had already been cancelled for the final time in the US. We had to wait three years for TNG unless we wanted to pay £25 (approx $50 at that time, I believe) for two episodes on VHS. So I’m not bothered about waiting a few months to watch the new series of Discovery.
The timing would be right. But the Troughton era ended in June 1969 and the Pertwee era started in January 1970. Not really much of a hiatus: just that previously it had been on practically all year round.

That's a myth nowadays, since there are quite a few shows which film in Canada but don't air on Canadian TV, like The Expanse or The Boys which both film in Toronto but are Amazon Prime shows.
Yes, but there was no Internet, so less likely to come across major spoilers only seconds after the US broadcast.
I like to binge a series over a few days, so if it’s being released weekly I wait for all the episodes to drop. I manage to avoid spoilers without leaving the internet for months at a time.
