The Ahsoka series is coming.

Fantastic. I had really hoped at least Sabine would be in this series! Here's hoping for Hera, too.

I know they're not casting the voice actors for the live-action roles but I still really want Lars Mikkelsen to reprise his performance as Thrawn. He's so pitch perfect in his performance.

Some people still refused to consider cartoons as anything other than for children.
There loss. The animation series for Trek and Wars is levels better than the live action.

Do wish they used Tiya. Or at least an Indian actress. But I guess Chinese Australian is what we got. Honestly Indians haven't been well represented in either.

I think it's going to be case by case. Tiya Sircar and Ashley Eckstein wouldn't have worked reprising their roles in live action because they just don't have quite the right physicality, and indeed, Tiya is a different ethnicity than Sabine! (Plus matching Ashley with Hayden instead of Matt Lanter would have just felt odd.)
Whereas the role of Bo Katan was tailor made for Katee Sackhoff, so of course she was the natural choice.

I think Lars Mikkelsen is similarly the natural first choice to play Thrawn, if he's willing. I also don't see any real issue with putting Vanessa Marshall in the headtails and bodypaint if that's where they want to go with it.

The character was specifically designed, and has been consistently portrayed as east Asian (specifically Japanese IIRC), not Indian, in all the media she's appeared in to date.

Good points there and I completely forgot about Sackhoff as Bo-Katan. There's still some hope for Mikkelsen then! Assuming, as you said, he's up for doing the role again and in make-up.

So this is really looking like a live action sequel to Rebels which makes me wonder...why not just make it animated? There's nothing wrong with animation! Live action isn't inherently better.
True, but I think Disney wants as many people to see this as possible and live action still has more broad appeal than animation does.

But I did like Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka and I'm sure this could be a good show.
And there lies your answer. ;)

I LOVED finally seeing a live action version of Ahsoka and can't wait for this series.

The whole point of the show is to showcase Rosario Dawson's version of Ahsoka, so switching back over to animation would defeat the whole point what they're trying to do.
If they were interested in doing a solo Ahsoka animated series, they probably would have done it after the final season of The Clone Wars instead of The Bad Batch.
I just thought of another character I would love to see pop up in live action, either in this or another show, Hondo. We've come close with the animatronic version at Galaxy's Edge, but that's not quite the same.

There was a rumour/leak (which included other things that turned out true) they were going to do an animated Rebels follow up series. But it's possible that whoever leaked that thought this Live Action Ahsoka series was that series.

There were rumours about an Ahsoka/Sabine show starting from the very moment the Rebels finale aired, because: duh!
It makes it hard to credit any supposed leaks with any credence when literally anyone could have just as easily made it up based on what is clearly being set up.

I'm sure there was always a Rebel's follow up somewhere in the pipeline, but it's doubtful the live action show was green-lit -- or even really considered -- before the Disney suits saw the first dailies come in from "The Jedi".

Small aside lest we forget how unreliable leaks can be: remember that last year that were some leaks that had Sabine showing up in Mandalorian season 2, played by Mercedes Varnado? Which of course turned out to be bogus.

Indeed, that leak may have in and of itself given away where it was coming from; specifically someone involved with "The Gallery" production side of things, since that's where 1) about everything that did leak from Bo Katan to Ahsoka, and Boba could be sourced, 2) was the only time in any official released images that I've seen, Varnado was show in costume, sans hairpiece and just sporting her actual hair (which is very colourfully dyed not unlike Sabine's), and of course 3) it had zero footage or mention of Luke, which was about the only thing that didn't leak from that season.

Point being, even when they're "real", often the people responsible for these leaks aren't actually in the know, they're just tangential to the production, or the marketing, or merchandising pipelines and may have laid eyes on *something*. Doesn't mean they actually know what's going on.

Reminds me of a hiker coming across the filming of the Tython episode of Mandalorian Season 2 and recorded a few seconds of it.
Nearly everyone on the StarWarsLeaks subreddit dismissed it as being a FanFilm or something. It was just a short recording of some of the Stormtroops on the side of the hill.

Someone else had a friend who's father who worked on Season 2 who told him Grogu's name. That was also posted on the leaks subreddit several months before airing, but no one believed it. It was the word of one random anomalous person through the grape vine with no proof, so it's not surprising no one would believe it.

Ivanna Sakhno joins the cast of Star Wars Ahsoka

Who knows who she's playing, but doing a google image search of her, she's got a pretty youthful slim face. Anyone else think she'd make a pretty good young Ahsoka if they do any flashbacks?

And her surname is almost an anagram
There was some dumb speculation in the io9 news article that she's playing Thrawn. Based on, well, nothing. Well, the photo they used of her at a press avail that had a poster of a blue person behind her. Or something. I don't know. It was too dumb to comprehend.

Can't say that I see her as a young version of Rosario Dawson . . . for one or two rather obvious reasons. Most likely she's an original character. Indeed, that's exactly what Deadline are reporting.
