What Would Jellico Do?

Data: Saves Earth from being assimilated by the Borg. Still a LCDR.
Deanna: After several days, finally manages to throw holo-Geordi under the bus. Makes Commander.

Can anyone see what's wrong with this picture?

Anyone at all?

We get it. You're obsessed with certain characters not getting the promotions you want for them.

Star Trek isn't a documentary on Starfleet. It's a drama show. Troi needed an upgrade into a more serious character (not that it worked allt hat much), Data didn't since his character was already good as he was.

It was ten episodes from the end of the series and they did nothing with it. There wasn't a single episode where Troi being a bridge officer was instrumental.

I know very little about tea. I couldn't tell the difference between Earl Gray and ... some other brand.

Guilty as charged, and no apology forthcoming. :cool:

Say what you want about Jellico, at least he gave our favorite android the honor he deserved. And that, plus Troi finally dressing like an officer, and getting Picard back safe if not sound, entitles him to all the cornflakes he wants. With strawberries, even.

Believe it or not. It was actually a request by Marina Sirtis. She thought her character would be taken more seriously if she was dressed formally.
 
Troi was a step forward, a step that continued with Kira and Dax wearing standard uniforms, Janeway and Torres same, and Kes wearing modest and flattering outfits.

Then, Seven's outfit showed up.

I did not say Seven. Seven was awesome. But her outfit was a giant step backward for Trek-kind.
 
I liked Troi's personalized outfits. I wasn't keen on how her stark change in clothing was another signal that Star Trek was becoming increasingly militaristic/"darker-and-edgier". Fortunately, she spent most of TNG in her "civilian" garb and she even got back out of uniform a few more times in TNG post-Chain of Command.

There's nothing wrong with Troi wearing civilian garb in Ten-Forward, or while counseling someone. Indeed, it's appropriate, given that a military uniform might be intimidating to some. But on the bridge, I agree with Jellico: she should dress like an officer.

Yeah, well, they made Wesley a time lord, & Ro Laren a Maqui, gave Lwaxana a dead kid, & Data a mother. Hell, the Enterprise gave birth to an intelligent lifeform. Nothing instrumental came of any of those things. That's just sometimes how final seasons work. You throw out some bones lol

I don't think of Starfleet as a military (even though there are the occasional stereotypical curveballs introduced for the sake of drama...like Maxwell, Nechayev (sp?) and Jellico). Still, that's a can of worms I don't wish to open much less prod with a stick.
 
Paramilitary, then. Someone who, if you are lieutenant (later LCDR) or lower, can order you around. That might turn some folks off, being reminded of that. An outfit like Troi's flowing blue dress might be less intimidating.
