Interesting how the article isn't really about Jenkins' project, but how it's all Kathleen Kennedy's fault...because that's not a red flag in regards to credibility at all, is it?https://www.joblo.com/patty-jenkins-rogue-squadron-delayed-due-to-creative-differences/
To quote C-3PO from RotJ.....
"Here we go again...."
I heard WW1 was great.I thought WW2 was crap and WW1 was average at best, so whatever. No big loss.
It's also hundreds of millions of dollars of somebody else's money they're spending in the process (and getting paid for the privilage!)Which is understandable because this is 2 years of your life ..
When you get the job, you expect a bit of flexability, Yes, you work for someone, and they control the overall narative, and going in they know that they won't get complete creative freedom. But what it sounds like is that she expected X amount of control, and she is getting Y level, and not happy about it, and WB lets her have more control, so she bailed. Which sucks. It's also hundreds of millions of dollars of somebody else's money they're spending in the process (and getting paid for the privilage!)
If they want to make a movie with total creative freedom, they can go pitch their own original IP script. If they want to play in LF's or Marvel's sandbox, there are rules. That's just how it is.
Part of the reason why the "TV" side of Star Wars has been the most successful creatively is at least partly because this kind of thing is perfectly normal in that world. TV directors are used to answering to a studio, of having a show runner and a writer's room to collaborate with. Movie directors are way more used to being laws unto themselves, coming on to projects, altering or totally rewriting scripts (often pushing out the original writer) putting their own stamp and brand all over it to make it a vehicle for their career as much as anything else.
Hell, this is precisely the reason why Lucas hired Richard Marquand for Jedi; he was at the time mostly known for directing TV mini-series and documentaries and thus very willing, and indeed eager to be a team player, willing accept that Lucas had final say in everything.
The funny part of all of this is that the fans would be the first to cry bloody murder if LF fail to maintain brand integrity. Indeed, the last time they let that slide we got 'Rise of Skywalker', and look how that went down!
Contract. The word you're looking for there it "contract."When you get the job, you expect a...
It is.I heard WW1 was great.
The Germans weren't happy with how either one turned out.I heard WW1 was great.
Honestly, I don't know what the creative system is like at Lucasfilm, but from my opinion on the outside, it seems like Kennedy is a very competent business side producer, but somewhat less successful creative producer. However, she WANTS to be a Feige-type creative producer, but doesn't have the ability to pick and mold talent the way he does. Sometimes she gets it right, sometimes she gets it wrong, but she isn't consistent. But what do I know, I liked Solo.
It's a boring remake of Captain America: The First Avenger.I heard WW1 was great.
the tv stuff is working and that's the part of Star Wars she is hands off on.
