Last Classic Who Story you watched

The Peter Cushing movies were released on blu-ray by Kino Lorber about a year ago. Reportedly, the picture quality is quite good. I meant to get them at the time, but didn't get around to it until now. So I'll be watching this weekend.

So actually I didn't get to watch these back when I originally posted this.
I finally got around to the first one, "Dr. Who and the Daleks." Yes, the picture quality was quite nice. Other than that, it was a little too silly for me. Story and characterization felt dumbed-down. And that cheap-o TARDIS interior...

Now I'm watching "The Hand of Fear."

It almost has the flavor of a 1960s Disney live action film. Never the less, it's impressive that it follows the BBC broadcast serial as closely as it does.

Now I'm watching "The Hand of Fear."

Have a tissue or two ready for the last 10 minutes of episode 4.

Face of Evil. This is probably the first one that I have clear memories of seeing when I was a kid.

Loved the notion of an "unseen" adventure that resulted in the situation we have in this story. Fans have long wondered "when did the Doctor first program Xoanan?" The AI suffers from a dissociative personality disorder, or something akin to it, right? What if the Doctor linked his mind when he was still experiencing the effects of his regeneration, that is, during the events of "Robot"? "Wait," you say, "He never left UNIT during that adventure." Oh, but didn't he? Remember that moment when the Doctor has ducked into the TARDIS and the demat wheezing starts? Sarah bangs on the doors, shouting past them that the Brigadier needs his help. What if the Doctor actually DID fly off to have a post regenerative crisis adventure and returned to the next Planck interval? From Sarah's perspective, the Doctor never left!

Admittedly, there is a major flaw with my theory. The Doctor was still in a hospital gown entering and exiting the TARDIS. The titular "Face of Evil" carved into the mountain gives the impression of a scarf wrapped around his neck, and he would not don that famous wardrobe until a few scenes later.

That's close to how Terrance Dicks accounted for it in the "Face of Evil" novelization. He said that "one night" during the Robot business, the Doctor succumbed to the urge to travel, snuck off in the TARDIS, and got back just minutes after he left, so nobody knew he'd been gone. So it wasn't that specific scene, but it was sometime during the story. There's a point in Part 2 where the Doctor suggests to the Brig that they visit Think Tank the next day, then says goodnight, so that might be when it happened.

Watched Meglos yesterday. It was ok, but not great. Too much time spent on Imposter Doctor, and then people accusing The Doctor of the imposter's actions. It was cool to see Jacqueline Hill, though.

I finished The Robots of Death, and then watched The Talons of Weng-Chiang. Good story but the racial depiction was, uh, problematic.

Now I'm watching the Paul McGann movie. I'm not sure if that's considered "Classic Who." The Master's snake thing...

Watched Full Circle. Its a decent story, with good looking creatures and a twist I didn't predict. It does lose points for introducing Adric, and possessed Romana just ended up being silly, but overall it was fine.

Watched State of Decay. Its not very good. Adric is a little shit, the vampires aren't that interesting as bad guys, and one of the supporting cast is particularly memorable. A bland, mostly forgettable story overall.

I've seen a bunch of stories out of order, so I've already had the joy of watching Earthshock, actually I do intend to rewatch it when I'm done with this Blu Ray set (I've been watching the Tom Baker final season Blu Ray set), to give some "closure" to Adric
