Your dream casts for the inevitable DIE HARD remake

If I can take the liberty of answering a different question, I wouldn’t want to see DH remade but I’d quite like to see them adapt the book it was based on (Nothing Lasts Forever) more faithfully. So McClane would revert to being Joe Leland (previously played by frank Sinatra in the film The Detective) and Stephanie Gennaro would be his daughter.

Ironically, Bruno is now probably age-appropriate to play Leland!

The closing credits should come with a disclaimer confirming that it's a Christmas movie.

:shifty:

Jon Bernthal as McCLane. Kerry Washington as his wife. Benedict Cumberbatch as Leland. Sterling K. Brown as the cop friend on the radio. Also it should be set during Halloween instead of Christmas and most of the characters are in costumes. McClane is dressed like a Cowboy and he gets the Yippie ki yay line out early in the movie and closes with something more in tune with him.

I would actually make them henchmen for Gruber. Brothers who are both Hackers and had to leave America when they stole 1 million dollars from the Pentagon on a lark. Katie Sackhoff and Avery Brooks would be the FBI guys. The Paul Gleason role would go to Paul Giamanti. Argyle would be James Acaster and Thornburg the reporter would be Sam Rockwell. A few more henchmen would be Dominic Purcell, Wentworth Miller, Michael Jai White, Gwendoline Christie, and Mark Strong as the second in command guy.

As much as you can't recapture the magic of the original Die Hard (although Die Hard 2 and Die Hard With A Vengeance come AWFULLY close), if they absolutely HAD to, I wouldn't mind seeing these people involved:

John McClane - Bill Hader
Hans Gruber - Benedict Cumberbatch
Holly Gennaro McClane - Naomie Harris
Sgt. Al Powell - Kenan Thompson
Dick Thornburg - Ty Burrell
Dwayne T. Robinson - Paul Giamatti
Ellis - Andy Samberg
Special Agent Johnson - Rob Riggle
Special Agent Johnson (no relation) - Mahershala Ali

Is it? Of what film?
The Detective with Frank Sinatra.

Never seen it and I don't think the two have many similarities but they are both based on the same novel and Frank Sinatra was offered the role in Die Hard because his contract from The Detective meant that there was a contractual obligation to do so.

Edit..Sorry not the same book but die hard was based on the sequel book to the one the Detective was based on.

Yeah, sequel, not the same book. I watched The Detective a few months ago, when it was on tv (the excellent Talking Pictures channel), out of curiosity. It’s not an action movie, more an old-fashioned drama about a decent, quite progressive cop, who becomes involved in a murder investigation and becomes compromised by the more corrupt and old-school officers around him. There’s virtually none of Joe Leland in John McClane or vice-versa.

Yeah it's been a while since I read about so yeah sequel not remake...Someone should deep fake Sinatra into die hard lol

Of course with the Die Hard sequels and the various movies inspired by Die Hard the question is what can they do that is different in a remake? My first suggestion is what I already mentioned and that is set it during Halloween instead of Christmas. Also instead of a High Rise how about a high tech underground bunker. Also their is a storm happening at the same time so their is danger within and also outside of the building.

You would need a large group of people in an enclosed space, but where in 2021? Shopping malls full of people are a thing of the past, and since COVID a good number of office workers now work from home.

John McClane - Ryan Reynolds
Hans Gruber - Tom Hiddleston
Holly Gennaro McClane - Blake Lively
Sgt. Al Powell - Wanda Sykes

Football or Basketball or Baseball stadium or court. Imagine McClane crawling around sneaking around Madison Square Garden. Terrorist have taken over the building during the middle of a Knicks game.

I'll add to this list
Alexander Skarsgard - Karl
Bill Skarsgard - his brother Tony...
Jason Bateman - Richard Thornburg
Ben Stiller - Deputy Police Chief Dwayne T. Robinson

And since it's a dream cast... Dwayne Johnson & Kevin Hart as the somehow confusable Agents Johnson

Die Hard in a sports stadium was done in the JCVD film Sudden Death https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0114576/?ref_=m_nmfmd_act_54
