S4 coming Nov 18!

I was kinda hoping for no overlap, maybe even a week off between series'.

Just in case they have further production issues, at least we wouldn't have any more large gaps.

Not really. It is for kids and those tolerant of programs aimed at kids. I have kids so I will watch it, but probably start looking at my phone after a few episodes.
There's some very high quality kids shows these days that adults can enjoy just as much as kids.
However, whether Prodigy will be one of those remains to be seen.

Based on this quote, I hope it means an episode or two more than previous seasons, but maybe better quality if nothing else?
Active development on the season began by January 2020, with more time spent writing than previous seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The trick is to write children's shows on two levels. If Prodigy can do that, they're golden.

Even though I don't plan on watching very much of it (though you never know), I do think this is probably going to be the most important Star Trek series in terms of franchise longevity. This, and other shows like it, are most likely where tomorrow's Star Trek fans are going to come from.

I'd be shocked if the show gets more than 13 ever again. With PIC/SNW both doing 10 per year, I'm honestly waiting for the shoe to fall and future seasons of DIS to be reduced to match. Hopefully not!

I’m not sure that would be bad. One of the supposed advantages of the streaming format is less need for filler eps, but Discovery has had several that could have been cut, in my book. (Planet of empty yurts, anyone?) The show has basically opted for the blockbuster movie approach, and those can be done efficiently in two hours, much less 10.

If anything, I think the show has strained to find arcs sufficient to fill out its run time. Maybe less would be better.

Also, if you look at Trek shows as a total package, not as individual products, it makes sense to cut back on Discovery. When it started it was more-or-less carrying Star Trek alone, but now it's just one of three (soon to be five) different series. Less money spent on Discovery means more money to be spent elsewhere.

That said, I would guess that they can't actively cut the cast's pay (at least for the mains) just because they cut the episode number, which would mean less incentive to pull back.

not sure if this time is my local time, or New York time, it doesn't say

It probably won't be. DSC is still seen as the Flagship Show.

It's not going to be Lower Decks or Prodigy. And Picard would be thrown a major curveball if something happens to Patrick Stewart, being in his 80s.

It's really down to Strange New Worlds and Discovery as the choice for Flagship Show. And SNW is looking back and telling standalone stories, while DSC is looking forward and, with nothing taking place after it, anything can happen.

EDIT: Plus, I'm convinced they want Discovery to hit 100 episodes, or as close to it as possible.

Wow..A lot of shows dropping around the same time. Discovery, Cowboy Bebop, Lost in Space, Hawkeye. So much to watch. So little time. :(

Add in The Wheel of Time and subtract Hawkeye and you've got me pegged, haha.

It's going to be nuts for me. I work in the gaming press. November is one of the industry's biggest months. I'll be penning news coverage, strategy guides, and Metacritic-hosted reviews for a veritable smorgasbord of video games.

Sleep is irrelevant. I will regenerate.

Phew, I sure hope you're right! 100 would be divine. We're only hitting 55 with the upcoming fourth season, so that's 94 after seven seasons. An abbreviated eighth brings us to that golden number. I'd be so down.
