Would it be better if Avery Brooks was involved? Yep, 1000%.

But if he’s unavailable, or if he does not want to do it, there’s a workaround as I described.

And the recent Star Wars trilogy could be guide as to how to do a DS9 film trilogy on Paramount+. The first film is Kira’s story, the second film is Sisko’s, and Bashir’s is the 3rd film.

DS9 may not be as popular as TOS or TNG, but they still have a decent sized fanbase. We aren’t talking about ENT here, which itself has been rehabbed over the years and get new fans day by day.

All the more reason to let it rest.

You can’t live on TOS and TNG forever. That’s why Discovery was made.

You shouldn't be relying on the past period. Not TOS, not TNG, not DS9, not any of it. I like Discovery just fine but more could be done.

People hate on Picard and think of Next Gen as being "All Good Things", "Yesterday's Enterprise" and "Q Who". But they forget Next Gen was just as much "Angel One", "Haven" and "Sub Rosa". Nostalgia is a funny thing.

Yep. TNG at its best was absolutely outstanding Star Trek. But it wasn't at its best all that often. There are plenty of mediocre and worse episodes. And the mention of "Sub Rosa" should be a reminder that TNG's awful episodes weren't all in the first season or two.

I'd love it, but with Aron and Rene gone, there would be something missing. And I doubt Avery Brooks has any interest in returning.

I don't think there are any big enough names involved, and it's just been so long and is kinda niche for a Picard-style revisit.

    But never say never.

With the state of the cast it could be just depressing. No Odo or Nog, I don't think Brooks is acting these days...

I don't think there will be any DS9 follow up series. But some DS9 character will eventually show up on Picard.

Siddig would be the biggest name as he been everywhere in the last several years (Game of Thrones, Gotham, Star Wars, etc)

This makes more sense, if they follow up at all. References are sufficient at this point.

DS9 might be the one series that is preserved best. (watch me be wrong and Star Trek: Late Night With Morn becomes a thing in a couple of years) . Too expensive with not enough payoff for an official HD touch-up, and gradually too obscure within a useful time frame to bring anyone back before the entire franchise is inevitably rebooted at some point. I like the Nog reference and the fact Quark is still raking in the franchise fees, but other than maybe having Jake show up as a journalist, I'd like them to retire those characters. The last thing I want is to let the PIC crew melonball more eyeballs from characters I liked for a cheap thrill.

If a DS9 sequel is going to be done half-assed, with several of the cast not involved because they’re either deceased or not interested, then there’s no point in making it at all.

Would a DS9 show or film that’s a tribute to Aron Eisenberg and Rene Auberjonois be acceptable, or no?

At the same time, I feel that this conversation around a follow-up would be moot if a Worf show (following Michael Dorn’s vision, not the comedy version) was green lit. Then the DS9 cast (both main and recurring) can have guest spots and refer to those that are missing

    Example:

Captain Worf: “Vedek Kira! I did not expect to see you in Klingon space!”

Vedek Kira: “Captain Dax brought me here in the Aventine, to talk to Chancellor Martok for help with a dispute back on the station involving Jem’Hadar. Captain Nog left in the Defiant a few weeks ago to the Gamma Quadrant to contact Odo for the same reasons.”

Captain Worf: “Speaking of captains, have you heard from Captain Sisko?”

Vedek Kira: “Not in a while. But at least he’s back. For a while, I thought he’d never return. Be sure to stop by Earth. He runs his dad’s restaurant with Jake now.”

Captain Worf: “I’ll be sure to do that.”

And then just cameos from DS9 (as well as from TNG and VOY) can happen, while creating new character to carry the franchise forwards. Like what PIC is doing now.

I just want a shameless line in a short trek that says Sisko turned up on the station two weeks later.

I'm torn. I love these characters so of course I'd like to see them again, but on the other hand I love these characters so of course I'd hate to see them mishandled.

I wouldn't say the chances are 0% but I picked 1-20%....and the reality is that it's a lot closer to 1% than 20%.

It doesn't even have to be a direct follow-up, like some other posters are saying we don't need. But having a character or two pop up here and there would satisfy me well enough. Something more than a cameo though. And not simply giving us the easy one, Worf. Picard has Seven. Prodigy has Janeway and Chakotay (and I'd wager there'll be more Voyager cast appearances as the show goes on). Lower Decks even had Tom Paris. Even Discovery had the Voyager-J. DS9 can't have just one character show up somewhere? The showrunners can't find any opportunity anywhere, yet Voyager gets something in each new series. It's a slap in the face to DS9 fans.

And speaking of cameos...there have been a lot of missed opportunities. Why LDS didn't have a Klingon in wej Duj simply mention Chancellor Martok is beyond me. And when there was a flashback scene at DS9, it was a perfect opportunity to have Quark appear...and if not Quark, then at least have Morn drinking at the bar. Simple mistakes, but glaring ones that make me think the current showrunners either don't care or don't know DS9 and therefore aren't going to give us much real fan service going forward.

Yeah, but PIC only had Stewart as a big name in its cast - granted there may only be one bigger name in Trek (Shatner).

But it wouldn't be half-assed if they use as many people as remain and pay tribute to those who don't. What could be better than honoring those characters, and actors, who we love who are no longer here?

The lack of any big DS9 references (the small ones being franchise Quarks and Mariner having visited DS9 on the Quito), is the one thing making me think, "are they saving DS9 for a reason?".

Also, I don't think you can say that not having those references you (and I) would have liked to see was a "mistake". There are many things that could have prevented them or they just weren't the intent of the LDS (or PIC) showrunners to include (for example, to me it is reasonable that LDS just didn't wanted to stake out that Martok was still Chancellor five years after the end of DS9; if that is not their story area, they don't want to step on someone else's toes and set that in stone - or at least cause a continuity error later if someone else contradicts it.). There was a Lurian in the bar in "An Embarrassment of Dooplers" and another in "Envoys" so, maybe one of the graphics people on LDS is a big DS9 fan.

In my opinion, the only way that would work is if those characters were only cameos that served to help introduce new characters. Having a new DS9 series ostensibly based around an aging cast consisting of Visitor, Siddig, de Boer, Shimerman and Meaney would be great for, say, a Short Trek (which I'm not even sure they're producing anymore), but for an entire series? I don't think so.
