Dune 2018 (19,20,21...)

I was going to see it in a theater, but the closest one to me really isn't all that close (it's on the other side of town with lots of traffic and recent construction to navigate) and it's also running a bit later in the day than I'd like. The pros of seeing it in the comfort of my own home at a time I want to see it won out, so I'm another that's going the HBO Max route.

It was amazing. Very tense, very pretty and something you don't see in the trailers is that a lot of the more out there artwork on ships and things has been kept (even Lynch's Sardaukar outfits get an Easter egg reference)
The soundtrack is exceptional and a huge part of the movie building almost to an assault at times

Why can't my local cinema be useful and have a morning session for both Dune and No Time Today.

3pm sessions really don't work for me.

Dune only officially releases tomorrow. I can't say what the rules are now, but when I worked for Cineplex they could premiere movies a day early for "midnight screenings" as long as the film still ended 1 minute after midnight, so usually the earliest they could do was 10 pm.

Today's the day, North America. HBO Max streaming becomes available at 6 pm EST and midnight screenings start a few hours after that.

I have my ticket for IMAX Sat at noon so will be waiting until then.

I got dumped yesterday so now I'm free to watch it again Sunday digitally if I want:shrug:

Ugh. Whistle along!

If you need ideas for a movie night, I'm sure a triple feature of Planet Dune, Top Gunner, and Fast and Fierce will be just what the doctor ordered.

It's always sad to hear once well know actors past their prime ( or at least what Hollywood thinks is prime) having to take on such projects to make some money.

By today's standards Dune 1984 is shit, but relativistically, I feel the same watching Dune 2021,now as I did in 1986 when I saw the original, when I used to think Dune 1984 was pretty cool.

My expectations have increased comparatively with the increase in quality of the new movie.

1984 Dune is not a complete desaster in my opinion, it has some bad moments and concepts but overall it was an effort to bring a difficult book to the screen with the technology of the day and studio politics/meddling.

I found the visual stype very appealing and still do, even with 2020 Dune that has its own distinctive style. Storywise they hit the broad cornerstones of the it and even try to integrate the Kwisatz Haderach and the experience into the movie ( they wisely left out genetic memory, that concept is truly far out).

I wonder how Villeneuve will takle these things as they are very high and complicated concepts and the book has the time and space to go into it.

I really enjoyed the new movie, but I'm nervously awaiting the second part becoming truly greenlit...I always felt like the first half of the Lynch movie wasn't too bad, it mostly just turns to mush in the second half. So I'm excited to see how Denis does with it with the advantage of dealing with it over a full movie.

It could be great or it could be a Rocky training montage + the orgy scene from The Matrix
