Didn’t Scott and M’Ress get flirtatious in an episode of TAS?
M'Ress and Sulu became an item in the old DC comics Trek series! Squicky as it is, this sort of thing is accepted in the Trekverse.

(Also those two girls Kirk bedded in Into Darkness? Kelvinverse Caitians, according to the script)

I had the opportunity to ask writer Peter David where he would have carried that subplot if not for the license renegotiation in the late 80s. (L'Oreal's purchase of Filmation brought into question who exactly owned the elements exclusive to the animated series.) Had it continued, M'ress would have gotten serious and wanted Sulu to meet her family. At which point he would have "bailed". "However," Peter noted, "until that point, there would have been some serious cat boffing!" I swear to Mogg, those were David's exact words! The audience at Dragon*Con erupted into a confused chorus of both cheer and jeers! It was hard to tell which side reacted louder.

Peter David's greatest joke about Caitians from New Frontier:

“So let us be clear with one another, Admiral. I have one life, not nine. I have never been killed by curiosity, my parents do not live in a cat house, my mother did not rock me as an infant in a cat's cradle, the preferred Caitian method of self-defence is not cat-boxing, I do not deposit my earnings into a kitty, if I am trying to be delicate about a subject I do not pussyfoot around - shall I go on?"

Man, M'Ress would HATE T'Ana for living down to stereotypes.
Having been lucky enough to see the Short Jewish Writers Show (Harlan Ellison and Peter David) at a con many years ago, I am completely unsurprised.
