Dune 2018 (19,20,21...)

I loved W13 and Eureka.
We also got the first couple season of The Expanse, Dark Matter, Killjoys, and Vagrant Queen, all of which I really enjoyed.
On the fantasy front I loved Wynonna Earp and The Magicians.

Great read. I particularly like how Zimmer worked closely with the sound department so they two of them could complement each other. Not enough films or television shows do that.

I wouldn't say so, not until the US numbers are in. Legendary is up for sale - they need this to be a hit if they're gonna spend money on the sequel. The execs are not gonna tank their valuation for a movie sequel, and the incoming team will have their own projects and not be wanting to continue other teams projects that they don't get credit for, not unless it's a big enough money maker they don't have a choice. The sales really complicate things.

Marketing is in over drive now. Fortnite skins are out, red carpet is today, Twitter Movies account has been taken over by Dune this week (and is doing a q&a with cast right now).

Few more day.

Since it's a couple days before NA release press releases/interviews are, again, staying "The sequel will definitely happen!" and there will likely be an official "The sequel is greenlit!" announcement soon, I will, once more, remind everyone those are all purely meaningless PR blather designed to make people think the movie is so good the sequel was greenlit before the box office numbers are in, so they should all go see it.

They're just words. Part of the marketing campaign.

I haven't watched this yet, as I find CinemaSins are well past their expiration date (they were funny when the videos were 5 min long, peaking with Skyfall, but then they got longer and longer...) but some of you may be interested

Yeah but how would the studio look if they pulled the rug now? Internationally it's been doing well enough and US and China are to open soon so what would they say? Ooops.. we thought about that and went with no?

When a project is really on the ropes and it could go either way you don't puff your chest like that, you are very quiet. That's not the vibe i'm getting off this - perhaps the studio liked the international numbers well enough that they figured US and China sales would safely put the movie over the hump so they'r emaking a spectacle of it and hype it some more.

Keep in mind, the people working at WB & Legendary now aren't the same ones who will be making the sequel. You generally have to have a damn good money making project for incoming exec teams to continue a franchise they didn't create. No glory in it for them, no credit, and they'll have their own projects to shepherd.

And current Legendary execs won't risk their sale valuation by sinking money into a franchise that's not profitable

Did anyone post that HBO moved up the streaming release?

6 pm EST Oct 21st now, which is earlier than the theatrical release.

The reason given is because theatrical "midnight screenings" will be happening the 21st, the digital screening release should also release then.

I suspect the truth is its because of the leaked digital versions tearing up the charts on pirate sites.

I so despite the HBO release being a thing. Just an excuse for them to think about not greenlighting the deserved sequel.
