There will never be Ferengi in DISCO

Maybe we will?

Discovery's bloody-minded intent to redesign established Trek aliens, but only SOME of them, continues to piss me off. Why mess about with a race as iconic as the Klingons, but not make the Vulcans look any different? Or the Trill? Hell, even the Lurrians were relatively unchanged.

(I appreciate that this might be a Ferengi-something hybrid. The point still stands.)

Every series/movie has redesigned aliens in some way.

Why shouldn't Discovery?

As mentioned in the trailer thread, this Ferengi actually bears resemblance to the original Ferengi concept design from TNG, so you could say this in more Ferengi than any of the others.

I'd need to see more detail, but I admit I'm not keen on this redesign. It just looks more ragged and off color compared to the original TNG/DS9 version.

How dare artists in the 2020s have a different sense of aesthetics than artists in the 1980s!

It's subjective, dude. They did it that way because Star Trek is a work of art, not a documentary, and the artists liked it that way.

Why mess about with a race as iconic as the Klingons, but not make the Vulcans look any different? Or the Trill?

1) The Klingons have already been redesigned multiple times.

2) The Trill of DS9 were a complete and total redesign, in both aesthetics and in concept, from the Trill in TNG. You gonna complain about the DS9 crew arbitrarily redesigning the Trill from TNG but not the Ferengi?

EDITED TO ADD:

Or, here's a thought: Maybe Ferengi don't all look the same. Maybe the Ferengi we saw in a dominant social position in the TNG/DS9 era were of one phenotype, and some Ferengi with distended ears are from another phenotype. I mean, goodness knows Humans have far more variation in real life without needing to be hybrids or a separate species.

Because it's art. If I can reasonably identify it quickly, as many have done already, then it probably isn't that big a change.

Also, Sci's point is one I prefer. Why assume there's only one phenotype for the different alien races?

Well, let's see...

I like Rom, Nog, Ishka, Pel, and that Ferengi Scientist from "Suspicions" (TNG). Quark has his moments but I think he's basically Ralph Kramden from The Honeymooners, much of the time.

Otherwise, I think the Ferengi are a bunch of trolls... and so I can't get too worked up about how they look. Do they look like a troll? Then they look like a Ferengi.

And he'll be on screen for what? One scene? Two? There are better things to go "Oh my God!" about.

A Ferengi with pointed ears?

Sure, it's a call back to the original design, but the lack of connection between the lobes and the eyebrows makes it look more like a mixed-species type.

And it wouldn’t be the only hybrid person in the trailer.

Maybe they deviated from the concept because they thought it looked stupid in the end. Thats the whole point of concept drawings. Ya maybe he is half Ferengi or disfigured or a Ferengi of a different ethnicity but whats the bloody point just make a Ferengi looking Ferengi for the sake of the quick shot
