It would appear natural that these unimaginative folks would select the one kitbash that doesn't blow up on their faces and then build a hundred copies, without daring to improve or integrate anything lest this configuration, too, starts backfiring...

One stage of that process might involve building a copy of a foreign component, perhaps out of stolen blueprints, but altering the scale to fit. And if that didn't result in an explosion, the Pakleds would leave it at exactly that!

Though, the Excelsior is 511 meters long, the Cerritos is 535.2 meters long. So uh, maybe it's just real close to the camera :P

Turns out all of Star Trek's space scenes are shot with fish-eye lenses.

Maybe it's a new class that just sort of looks Excelsiorey.

That actually doesn't look bad. I wanna see what the nacelles look like in profile before I make judgement though. That angled neck looks nice from the side but kind of weird from the front.

Why do you think they have Cetacean ops?

The official synopsis also calls it an Excelsior Class, even though one of the co-producers said it wasn't. Weird.

That's an awfully big excelsior class.

Is it? I can never tell how big the Excelsior is in any shot. Sometimes it looks massive based on window size, but then tiny in volume compared to other ships? Based on the windows here, this looks like the deck numbers seem to match up with a standard Excelsior?

I know this is nitpicking, but is it just me or is there an invisible light on the underside of the NeoExcelsior's saucer, lighting up the starfleet insignia?

There's shots of her near the Cerritos in the trailer.

The excelsior is 466 meters long, the Cerritos is 530.

Maybe they're upscaling the Excelsior like they did the Connie in DSC :P

Or since they hark on the tropes of those shows, she's out of scale as a meta joke.

But it's also possible she's just close to the camera in a way that makes her look a lot larger than the Cerritos.

That's the thing isn't it? I know it's been said you can't really judge a ships scale by window size, but man i dunno, that window placement doesn't really look any more outrageous than the Excelsior in TSFS. Those nacelles I guess could be Sovereign style rather than Sovereign units.

We need a size comparison thread again. Same arguments apply will seem to the New-celsior as the Old-celsior. Looks like the saucer rim is either 3, 5, or 7 decks once again. For the sake of simplicity, I'm gonna guess this ship isn't that much bigger than the Excelsior and we are looking at shots with it in the foreground. Otherwise, those windows must be EVEN SMALLER than the tiny portholes on the Excelsior, and this ship is a whale.

...I bet the turbolift funhouse in this ship is HUGE.

I could understand when, back in the day, ILM & Image-G had issues with getting scales right on the physical filming miniatures. It wasn't easy compositing everything to look correct in an analog environment. These days, when everything is CG and ship's scale is literally changing a number or doing a click-and-drag of a wire mesh's bounding box, I think they can afford to be a little more fastidious with the relative scaling accuracy.
