Netflix's Lost in Space Season 3

I've seen suggestions that Netflix should move to weekly release instead of "dropping" whole (or half) seasons at once, and I think that might be a good idea.

Yeah, more discussion and time to absorb everything seems to occur when they do shows weekly. I find it's easier to get and stay attached to characters as well, "missing" them after the show is over, even.

And for viewers who will choose to watch them weekly anyway, it makes it way easier to avoid spoilers.

I'm not so sure of that, I find that it is hard to avoid spoilers if you don't watch each week's episode immediately. When it dumps all at once I think there's an understanding to be careful of spoilers because you don't know where someone is in their viewing. Once a weekly episode drops it's like the gloves are off and everyone posts as if everyone has seen it.

From what I read on SYFY wire, it's only a time jump of a year, so yeah, perhaps puberty works differently in space?

Perhaps something in the water from one of the planets they've been on ;)

I've also wondered why this series has fallen through the cracks. While I do have quibbles, it's a very well made series. I chalk it up to Netflix just putting it all out at once. So the most interested can just binge it in a weekend, instead of how competitor series like the new Treks, Mandalorian, The Orville, etc. put out an episode a week, which can get more attention and discussion week to week.

I chalk it up to the way Netflix does its marketing and the way it "recommends" things to people. Netflix has so much content. Upon release, they'll release a trailer on their Youtube channel, and they'll highlight it as a current release, and that's it. After that, they'll leave it to its own success or failure, until the announcement of a new season, if it gets one. Shows survive by being noticed on their service. If they're forgotten, they're likely not to be found, leading to cancellation. Sadly, it feels like Netflix is like a conveyor belt of releases. Every week there's something new, and it's easy to miss something if you only get a brief glimpse of something before it's shuffled off out of view in favour of something new yet again.

But as to the watercooler effect, I do think dumping and binging has led to less conversation overall, leading to less discovery. Instead everyone comes into it at different times, which might be long after interest levels have died down. It's more fun when you can watch it at the same time and discuss afterwards, as you then share excitement and enthusiasm for what's currently happening.

But that kills all post-release discussion because either people don't want to spoil it for others, or they're scared of accidentally being spoiled.

When I watch Discovery I see it a day after US viewers and so I only have to avoid this forum for one day and then I can join in the discourse. With something like LiS, I have to avoid any discussion of it for 10 weeks.

And these days you have websites that freely spoil endings in their headlines very shortly after release and I can't always avoid seeing those.

That's why I immediately add anything that looks even moderately interesting to my queue, because if I don't I can never find it again.

I'm frustrated by the recent, bizarre change Netflix made to My List, replacing the sensible text-based list that you could rearrange according to preference with a clumsy image-based format that automatically arranges items by, I guess, whichever ones are "trending" more, which is useless and frustrating for those of us who are trying to watch just one specific show and have trouble finding it in the ever-shifting list. Granted, it's the same way other streaming sites tend to organize their lists of saved shows, by images instead of text, but at least they don't constantly change the arrangement because of "trending" or whatever. And Netflix's old list format was much more useful and flexible, so I don't understand why they ditched it.

I don't know why it's recent for you, but it's been that way for awhile now. And I agree that it's clumsy. Unless you already recognize the posters in question, it's hard to disseminate the information about what it is, and the other thing is that they frequently change those images. I find the UI in general to be very cluttered and I often find myself frustrated while trying to find something.

Yeah, there was a message up top on the old My List saying that it would change in early September, but I was still getting my old list and that message until late September. Maybe because I didn't visit Netflix much in September? Maybe they allowed me a grace period of a certain number of visits before instituting it? I dunno.

I had a similar problem recently when I finally decided to see what Paramount+ had to offer besides Star Trek. It has a huge number of movies, but there seems to be no way to find a simple written list of everything they have, and it takes forever to scroll through the alphabetical list because each image has to load individually.

Yeah, I'm not sure. Which version was it? Desktop, Mobile app, or Roku style? I didn't even know the list format was even an option. All I know is that searching for something is a pain, and there has to be a better way somewhere. I've noticed that they tend to change things up from time to time, maybe doing test periods with enhancements, because I've had times where the movie/tv show is highlighted with it showing descriptors, and I've really liked that as it can help a lot in choosing something when there's so much to wade through, but it's not always available and I can't figure out why.

In the US, they rolled out the change in stages, so not everyone was affected at the same time. It's horrible. I'm not against change, but it has to be a change that improves on how things were before. This feels like a serious downgrade. No control over placement of titles, they stopped showing expiration dates late last year so we couldn't tell what was leaving (I was repeatedly told that was a glitch and they were 'working' on it).
I had everything arranged in blocks-themed sections where I knew where to go to find things, and now, it's a jumbled mess.

This is now in effect on both the website and Netflix app. I don't believe the list option at the website was ever available for those outside the US.

It feels like the kind of change that's made to save the company money somehow rather than to benefit the users. Though I'm not sure what the advantage to the company would be.

They do that for some shows, but for the most part, it's all released at once. This I think happens if a show is on another network elsewhere and they have contracts in place to keep everyone viewing it at the same pace.

Ahh, that would explain things. Being in Canada, it's likely I didn't even have the option.

IHMO, the UI has been steadily getting worse and worse. It all started when they unified their UI to all work like the mobile UI.

Works for Disney.

My kids will watch the whole thing at once. I will watch the first couple of episodes and then either an episode an evening or one or two a week depending on available time. The thing with Netflix is that I usually watch the first ten minutes of all episodes after the first so I don't stop watching on a cliffhanger.
