Best Performances Outside of Trek

I want to see what people think the are the best acting performances outside of Trek for Trek regulars. I would like to keep the discussion to the series regulars for each series (ie. Shatner,Nimoy, Patrick Stewart,Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew, etc..) although if you want to include some guest stars who were in more than a single episode, that would be fine too.

Basically I'm looking to see what nontrek performances are worthy of attention for each actor such as Shatner's acting on Boston Legal or Levar Burton's performance in Roots.

Is there any particular actor who might not get enough credit for his/her other roles outside of trek? feel free to discuss.

Armin Shimmerman's work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer stands out for me, a very different character to Quark, created with expertise.

I liked Patrick Stewart's performance in the adaptations of A Christmas Carol, and Moby Dick. But one that he really did well was a low budget thriller called Safe House. He plays an Ex-DIA Agent who is slowly scumming to Alzheimer's, and is also being targeted by his former boss who is currently running for president.

William Shatner turned in an excellent performance in "The Andersonville Trial" in which he played the attorney who prosecuted the commander of a notorious Civil War prison camp. The Emmy and Peabody award winning drama contained other worthy actors such as Richard Basehart as the defendant and Jack Cassidy as a cynical defense attorney and was directed by George C. Scott. Hands down the finest non-Trek performance I can remember by the Shatman.

Andrew Robinson as the Scorpio Killer in "Dirty Harry". I know he doesn't like this role. However, he did an effective job.

Patrick Stewart in "Moby Dick"
Will Wheaton in "Stand by Me." No Wesley Crusher Derangement Syndrome, please.
Roxanne Dawson as a Director. In the 1st season of "House" she was listed as a Director for an episode.

That's it for now. I have heard that many Trek regulars and recurring characters do fine work at the Pasadena Playhouse. I am 2000 miles to the east of that so it would be difficult to attend a performance.

This one is kind of obvious but, Scott Bakula in Quantum Leap.

I was going to say P. Stewart in Xmen, but someone beat me to it.

Avery Brooks as Hawk in "Spenser for Hire". I just loved him in that show.

Brent Spiner in both "Introducing Dorothry Dandridge" and "Out to Sea".

Rene Auberjonois for a number of stage roles, but I really enjoyed his slimy old-time movie producer Buddy in City of Angels. Of course his crazed French chef in The Little Mermaid is a great vocal performance.

Patrick Stewart's acting talents never disappoint.

I liked Alexander Siddig in "24", "Syriana" and a couple of other films I've seen him in.

Colm Meany is great, check out "The Van" and he also had a very enjoyable small role in "Con Air".

Regulars Jeffrey Combs and Andrew Robinson always greatly add to the films you see them in.

Funny, My fiance and I watched The Little Mermaid on dvd the other night since it's one of her favorite Disney films, and I kept wondering who Rene Auberjonois played when i saw the credits at the beginning of the film. Then when we saw Louis the French chef who tries to cook Sebastian, we both said that's Odo with a French accent. I also got her into DS9 so she appreciated it just as much as I did.

I ejoyed Patrick Stewart in A Christmas Carol.

Avery Brooks in American History X was fantastic as well.

Avery Brooks as Hawk in "Spenser for Hire". I just loved him in that show.
Robert B. Parker, the author of the Spenser series, has said that once Brooks played Hawk on TV, he (Parker) began writing Hawk in the books as Brooks portrayed him.

Scott Bakula, on stage in Shenandoah. On TV, very versatile in Quantum Leap.

Levar Burton in Roots, absolutely.

Now I want to see The Andersonville Trial.

I really liked Stewart in X-Men (Even though it was exactly like Picard) and Frasier. I don't watch much of it anymore, but I also really enjoyed whenever he showed up on American Dad.

I don't know if anyone remembers, but when UPN first started, there was a show called Legend and John De Lancie was one of the stars. I remember him being good in that role.

He and Richard Dean Anderson were both good in that, I thought, but it may have been a little too offbeat to gain a wider audience. Another early casualty along similar lines was the mid-70s Shatner/Doug McClure series Barbary Coast, though inconsistent writing may also have been a culprit there.
