Some of the title sequence stuff could do with tightening up to remove the goofiness. I don't know what someone unfamiliar with the anime version will make of it. It'll probably appear very confusing - "WTF's a corgi doing in there?" maybe. Live-action people don't have the jerky motion that the cartoon characters had so maybe lose some frames to recreate that in the titles.

Oh, then I'm not sure what you meant with regard to the trailer.

(And I don't think it matters much which definition you use. Just like American fiction tends to assume all Japanese people are martial artists, Japanese fiction often seems to assume all Americans are cowboys.)

Since when was it a bad thing to make the audience ask questions? That's how you whet their curiosity and make them want to see more.

Clearly the intent is not an exact recreation, as you can see in the side-by-side video above. It's an homage, not merely a copy.

Just looks off and a bit sloppy somehow - probably because I'm familiar with the original. It's just the titles though and Yoko Kanno's music is pretty much identical, which is great. I'd usually skip the titles anyway. It looks almost like they've used the anime as a storyboard for the live action as the villains are instantly recognisable. I'm going to judge it on the acting, stories, and dialogue, not the titles though.

It looks like they might have stuck a little too close to the anime, some of the stuff in there looks a little silly in live action. I'm not totally writing it off, since it doesn't really show enough to know how it's really going to work, but I'm a tiny bit less optimistic than I was before.

Well, we'll always have the anime. I guess animation like Bebop that's very quirky and stylised is always going to look kind of weird when translated to live action. Real people don't move like Spike.

Wow, everyone's so picky. Either it's too much like the anime or not enough like the anime. I think it's great. It's a loving tribute that feels authentic while still doing its own thing. That's exactly what I hope the show will be.

Show it someone who's never seen the anime (or any anime) and see what they think.

I guess it just caught me off guard, I was expecting it to ground things a lot more. Honestly, I like goofy, silly, and campy, so there's probably a very good chance I'll like this.
Hell, the '60s TV series is one of my favorite versions of Batman.

As do I and will continue to do for the anime titles. I'm hoping these ones are a work in progress, perhaps altered to avoid spoilers, and are not yet final. It's a subjective thing - if other people like it, fine.

I was thinking the same thing and it might grow on me. But if people can't make first impressions based on trailers then what's the point?

Cowboy Bebop is none of those things. Well, it has its moments of silliness, but it's much closer to noir than camp.

I've never watched the anime: I thought this live action title sequence was fun and it has made me want to watch the show.

I get the feeling we are seeing a mash-up of different episodes in one film….

Either this will be glorious or a disaster. I actually liked the opening sequence. I just hope this series doesn't suck.

That's pretty common for clip-based main title sequences. For a Netflix show, when a whole season is basically one long story that's released all at once, it seems pretty much a given.

On watching again this morning, I like the new titles a lot more. They're not perfect in a couple of places - my perception of the mistiming of some frames against some beats of the music maybe. Most likely, I was just feeling overly grumpy yesterday.

This is the opening credits sequence, and those almost always take footage from multiple episode.
