News Strange New Worlds casting/new characters

Honestly, I think that the second half of Voyager may have been a bit altered by the previous timeline reset. I don't think 7 of 9 existed as a drone before the events of FC. YMMV.

Not sure if anyone has addressed this yet.

If Dr. M'Benga is the Chief Medical Officer on the Enterprise, does this imply he would get demoted when McCoy is assigned to the ship.

This has been the question. Is M'Benga the CMO? If not, who is?

Personally, I don't think that he is. I think he is serving out his residency and will be transferred to Vulcan to finish up. McCoy takes over as CMO and has more time in grade.

M'Benga, uh, heads off to become chief of Starfleet Medical just before TOS. After it doesn't work out like Crusher a century later, he comes crawling back to the Enterprise. Unlike Pulaski however, McCoy sees no reason to just hand over the CMO job and tells M'Benga to take the second rank over by the corner. M'Benga later warns Kirk not to try this sort of gimmick in his future, but as we see in Star Trek the Motion Picture Kirk ignored the advice.

Re: Things and characters we've seen before, or have been mentioned.

Screw that. As Uhura says in "Metamorphosis, "It's a big galaxy, Mr. Scott." Lets see some new shit not the same old small-universe syndrome in Trek and a lot of franchise fiction.

I said this and still stand by it... but I can't help but be excited for Cadet Uhura. Cause I'm stoked that she's returning to TV Trek. Also, cause Uhura is my third favorite character after Kirk and Spock.

Even if M'Benga was a CMO when he joined the Enterprise crew, I'm sure he probably deferred the position to McCoy since Kirk (The Captain) chose "Bones" to be in that position.

I also always thought that M'Benga specifically asked to be transferred to the Enterprise so he could study Spock as a half-human/Vulcan individual.
Something M'Benga would never had access to if he had remained on Vulcan.

If this version of M'Benga needs to be crammed into the old continuity, then, whatever his position, he obviously left the Enterprise if he is the CMO in SNW. Piper is identified as a department head in "Where No Man...", McCoy is clearly the CMO in the two episodes M'Benga appears in. It is noted in "A Private Little War" that M'Benga spent time on Vulcan, prior to when we see him in TOS.

We have to age him up a bit for SNW, as Booker Bradshaw was only 27 in TOS, but it could be simply that M'Benga wasn't interested in being a starship CMO after giving it a whirl. He returned to the Enterprise under McCoy to finish his commitment to Starfleet in 2267-68.

I doubt they'll show Boyce .
Might become like discovery where there is no or absent Cmo.

Do wish there were more aliens in the main crew. Even if it was a light makeup like a Deltan.

Yep. This is the First Contact timeline. Everything has been changed since the events of that movie.

Because...in the real world, everything about Star Trek was changed by that movie.

How I approach it. Giant multiverse. Strange New Worlds is its own thing, broad strokes will likely be similar, details will be different. Spock will likely see Sarek in this show, encounter Romulans, go to Iotia and so on, doesn't change the narrative of TOS in any way.
