In this case, I can't really see them changing Faye's costume since the one that people want is ridiculous, and there's no way they'd use it in a big budget production like this. Even if they did change it, it's still not going to be the costume from the anime and the fans who are pissed are still going to be pissed, so there's no point wasting their time by chaging it.

Except as I keep pointing out, it basically is the anime costume, just a more realistic and practical version thereof. The top is essentially the same aside from behaving like actual cloth rather than cling film. The red jacket is there, but it's worn properly instead of constantly off the shoulders. And both costumes include shorts, sexy stockings, and boots, just different in color and cut. The only thing that's actually missing is the headband.

It’s the take on the spacecraft I want to see…assuming it isn’t all done on the surface.

I'm guessing we might not see Ein or Ed, which is a pity. Using even a suitably trained animal (Ein) would likely slow up filming too much and a CGI version would be too expensive as well, require careful direction, and also add delay in post. A child actor (Ed) would age too rapidly over several seasons.

You saw Ein above, and they have announced that Ed will be included, though they haven't announced an actor yet. Given that Ed was introduced fairly late, it's plausible that she won't debut until season 2, or the end of season 1.

As for the feasibility of CGI animals, the TV adapation of the comic Y: The Last Man is using CGI for the protagonist's pet monkey, both for the safety of the lead actor and out of animal-rights considerations. The technology's gotten quite advanced now.

Yes, I missed that announcement. I'm glad my pessimism is misplaced.

"Fans" have very little to do with changes being made following Test Screenings. Most of the people who get chosen to attend - or choose to attend - Test Screenings are either members of the media or members of the general public whom studios expect will give honest opinions because they aren't fans and therefore don't have preconceived notions about the property being test-screened.

There are and have been exceptions, but that's what they are: exceptions.

The impact that "fans" actually have on a given property has been grossly overinflated and exaggerated.

The test screenings my mom and I went to at our regular theater wre done blindly, we didn't know what we were going to see until the movie started and I don't remember the people in charge asking us what we liked, so unless they were unusual, you can't really say that people going them aren't fans since nobody knows anything beforehand.
In case anyone is wondering one was Shrek 2 and I don't remember what the other was. And the Shrek screening provided a perfect example of why listening to the public can be a bad idea. There were two teenage girls in front of us who were disappointed Shrek and Fiona turned back into Ogres at the end, which misses the entire theme of the movie, which was Shrek learning that he shouldn't change who he is.

This discussion reminds me of the episode of Community screening the US version of Inspector Spacetime.

Looks a lot more "Western" than I had imagined. EDIT: I know what I mean but not saying it right... Looks a little cheesier than I expected hopefully it's comes off better when we get actual footage.

Oh dear god that was awful. It looks like they've shot most of the series on green screen sets as well.

Wow. They are really dedicated to authenticity.

...well they're clearly trying, but I'm still not feeling it. Trying to directly emulate the original's style in live action like this is VERY hard to pull off and requires some very talented people behind the camera so that it doesn't come off unintentionally goofy, and I'm just not seeing that here.
