I love the bizarre quirky stuff like an upside-down Battlestar Galactica on the cover of Ghost Ship, or Colonial Vipers on The Romulan War. Young Tasha dressed like a nurse being led to safety by someone in a Pike-era uniform on the cover of Survivors? Awesome.

My all-time favourite covers though are the Japanese version of Spock Must Die, and it's awesome version of the Enterprise; and the German version of Mission to Horatius painted by someone who clearly never saw the USS Enterprise.

Those are great. Never seen them before. Reminds me of the covers and interior illustrations to the Japanese translations of the early Doctor Who novelizations. The Daleks were drawn based on the text descriptions, so they kind of look right and kind of don't!

I feel like Trek novels have very hit and miss covers. Some have really good ones, but I'm pretty darn sick of the floating heads covers and covers with publicity photos as artwork.

Looks interesting, but because it’s CG coloured, it loses some of that flair that the original hand-painted covers had.

I used a couple of premium PS actions to try and nail that hand painted effect down. I wish my hand was more steady and speedy to paint them. But I had 3-5 days to pitch, approve and complete each.

But how cool to find a great ST board reminiscing about them and referencing my work? Thanks y’all!

I love it that in Europe you can just casually put a topless woman on a non-adult book or magazine cover and the censors don't crack down on it. Americans are so prudish by comparison. What it has to do with TMP is beyond me (is that supposed to be Ilia?), but a random naked blonde on the cover of a novel written by Gene Roddenberry seems strangely appropriate. He would've wanted it that way...

And of course the paintings of Kirk and Spock are from the TWOK novelization's cover. And it's the TV Enterprise.

I saw that Czech TMP cover and immediately said "My word! They're wearing the wrong uniforms." Then about two seconds later as an afterthought "Oh, look, random boobs." I must be getting older and nerdier. My priorities are all messed up.

Alternatively to being Ilia with hair, maybe that's Kirk's mom getting prepared to meet her first love instructor. Or Kirk's girlfriend before she got turned into a puddle of Jell-O pudding by the transporter (that scene still creeps me out). That explains why Kirk won't look at her. Spock's just not interested because he's thinking about calculus or something, and he's a gentleman.

That cover is definitely portrayed in Gene's Vision™ goggles, though.

No. I never saw another set of these done while Ive been here. We also made versions for Ephraim & Dot. And another animated short.
