Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy General Discussion Thread

Jimmi Simpson is playing a Section 31 agent--wearing all black...

If he's not on board a USS Callister at some point, I will consider it a missed opportunity.

And he worked with Alex Kurtzman on Fringe, Sleepy Hollow, and Transformers Prime, wherein he played Unicron (a character who debuted in a movie that co-starred Leonard Nimoy).

...and he has the same birthday as Lincoln with the month and date inverted, and was in Footloose with Kevin Bacon.

I am certainly not the target audience for this show, but outside of the last 15 seconds I was rather underwhelmed. But did really like the last bit of it, quite a bit.....

But I did really kind of like the earlier teaser of the show, so I will definitely watch the first episode.

The Prodigy opening credits has been released on Twitter: https://twitter.com/StarTrekOnPPlus/status/1432776902738055173?s=20

The music is nice. It's like a cross of the Avengers meets Star Trek. I kind of wish there was the cast written though so it feels like there is a little more going on. This feels like a variation of the Voyager sequence.

What a pretty opening! Hopefully this was just the clean version and the live version will have some cast and production names on it. Super weird without them!

And I love that they went with a full length theme song. I know we get that little flourish of the original theme song in every new theme song, but I dunno, it sounds particularly nice here.

That transforming rocket for what I assume is Slipstream velocity is kind of silly and very like...kids cartoon, but its fine. I'll label it as 'personality' that this iteration of Star Trek has that others did not.

As I recall, the advance releases of the other streaming Trek shows' main title sequences were also credit-free.

I dunno, though... it's pretty unusual in American animation to list the cast in the main titles. Most animated shows only list voice cast in the end credits. On the other hand, Lower Decks lists the cast in the opening, so it's plausible that Prodigy would too. (And What If...? does as well, though most other current animated shows I can think of don't.)

Soooo does the ship have its impulse engines at the end of the nacelles? :nyah:
I'd call that music pretty bland, though...

I usually LOVE Michael Giacchino, but that score sounds super generic to me. It's not "bad" but it's just as dull as can be.

Archer comes to mind as another animated that list the cast in the opening credits.

I think this is a clean version and that there will be cast credits when the show finally airs--the ship is flying by each of the main characters (or at least part of each) throughout the opening, with Mulgrew's Janeway as the final one.
