But the name Kahless predates Okrand's work?

I like that the Discovery actors pronounce qeylIS in accordance with tlhIngan Hol and that Lower Decks sticks with the anglicized Kahless.

The pronunciations seem fitting to me for each show.

    Kahless, embodiment of evil!

Yeah, the Klingons are going to have some issues when they visit Excabia.

That doesn’t change anything. They were pronouncing it the way they were instructed.

Kahless is the English pronunciation, the other way is the Klingon pronunciation.

Apparently no one here has encountered "Warsh-ington" as a pronunciation of Washington.

At least a person from Warsh-ington would appear to be clean...
I'd hate to see what an Ex-scabian would look like. :ack:

Yes but remember that version of Khaless was taken from the minds of Kirk and Spock by the Excalibians. Thus it was Khaless as Federation historians see him.

The point being because of that the pronunciation would be how the Federation pronounced it and not necessarily how a native Klingon would pronounce it.
    ;)

There are SO MANY accents on Earth. Other planets must be the same. Clearly, Voq is Scottish-Klingon, just as Elnor from Picard is Australian-Romulan and Laris is Irish-Romulan.

They explain that in Okrand's books, like the Morska guys in TUC with their different dialect, and it also explains why big guys like Gowron speak "wrong" Klingon - it's just a different dialect ;)
