Spoilers The Ships of Lower Decks

S02E02 added the FASA Loknar class (think NX-01 or Franklin made of TOS Enterprise parts) canon, via a display of ships in the USS Titan's conference room (along with Matt Jeffries' original Yorktown/Enterprise concept and a Titan missile). The FASA Federation Ship Recognition Manual, Second Edition had a Loknar-class USS Titan which is apparently a part of the Lower Decks' ship's lineage.

This is modern Trek's second deep-cut FASA reference, after the Talos IV co-ordinates in Discovery's second season being from FASA's The Federation sourcebook.

That least saucer has an inner cone. I think Barlowe’s EXPEDITION book had a similar conveyance…a more realistic bladder like airship for the DISCOVERY CHANNEL presentation though.

So that weird Roomba shape thing is a Titan probe?

So I was curious and based on the size comp on the bottom right, the 535.2 meter length for the Cerritos, a ruler and some rudimentary math...
The Parliament class comes out at 895.9 meters!!

Anyways, I was thinking about all the vessel upgrades that a Star Trek Captain gets in show/movie.

Captain Kirk went from Consitution Class -> Refit Constitution Class

Captain Picard went from Galaxy Class -> Sovereign Class -> Retirement and hiring out Rios ship "La Sirena" as a private citizen & retired Admiral.

Captain Sisko went from stuck on DS9 -> DS9 + Defiant Class

Captain Janeway got home and was promoted to a Admiral / Desk Job, eventually immortalized into a hologram.

If Captain Freeman and her crew ever gets upgraded to another ship that isn't a California Class / USS Cerritos

Hopefully, she gets a Parliament Class ship.

Maybe that will be the eventual (In Show) upgrade path for Captain Freeman.

You already have the 3D CG asset and it's a Lower Decks original StarShip design.

Apparently, the interiors are largely the same =D

For all we know, the thing has no "space drive" to speak of, and the fancy ring around her is purely for atmospheric maneuvering. Perhaps not at the thin-atmosphere Titan, but in the depths of Saturn herself, this being a batyscaphe that moves up and down by virtue of a magnetic coil or whatever...

And kudos to them for their research in finding that there was a Loknar with the name Titan. I hope they use more FASA designs in the future.

As for the Jeffries Enterprise concept, I have no reason not to believe that the intent was for it to be an early pre- or post-Federation Starfleet vessel. And even if it’s not, it’s cool that they used it at all.

The Jefferies Prototype 2 there (which I will refer to as Titan Class) probably has a nacelle or two hidden in the white section (with the bottom part being the warp core and engineering directly fed into the nacelle), and the crew live and work in the metal saucer that rests on top. Not sure about the metal saucer surrounding everything, but it could be part of a deflector shielding system.

Could be the saucers of starships are actually functional somehow, and this was an early experiment in which a random spacecraft was given a proto-saucer for the very first time. Sure, one can squeeze habitable decks in there, too, but the functionality might be separate: a gravity-generating donut coil, a vital shielding system, an antenna for FTL radio...

I'd definitely keep the design pre-Starfleet, pre-UFP. We see the symbols "S" and "2" there; I'd love for this to be the second Saturn probe, following Christopher's vessel into the depths of the gas giant!

I can't see Freeman moving past her micromanager tendencies to the point she gets a decent command. She's more likely to end up as one of those obstructive "tries to tell Kirk his job" Commodores commanding a backwater outpost types, if she ever makes it past Captain.

This particular spacecraft is so horribly tiny that I'd hate to see it fall to even smaller pieces. Indeed, it seems to be so defined by the absence of familiar elements that it would be nice to think that it lacks capabilities in appropriate numbers, too. By the numbers: no obious warp drive, no obvious shuttlebay, no obvious impulse drive, no obvious weapons. The vertical structure, with the engines at the bottom, makes one wonder about the direction of flight, too...

Strictly canonically speaking the Jefferies concept could be pretty much anything of course, and the depiction in the episode (or the Jefferies artwork shown here) does not establish a clear scale. But if we put any faith in Jefferies original work, the cutaway he also produced is informative:

So there would be four decks, no warp drive (in fact, it doesn't show any propulsion system at all, though perhaps it is supposed to be the section labelled "power"). Based on the average height of the human figures I arrive at a length of ~42 meters, so it's definitely tiny. Agreed with Timo that pre-Federation, pre-warp sounds about right.

Agree on this one. Just the fact that she's indulged her daughter like this, in secret, and for so long, really speaks to how poor of a captain she really is.

I think it reflects on how poor of a mother she really is.

The fact that she raised her daughter to this point and the way she behaves.

Children, even Adult Children are a reflection of their parents and their parenting skills / experience.

How much of a % of a reflection that is, will vary based on what happened while they were growing up.

My nerdy senses say the old Yorktown/Enterprise concept is the Titan version of the Ringship Enterprise XCV-330 , so maybe about the same era. Or at the very latest, "The Cage" era. Or just like, unauthorised Forbidden Planet crossover.
