His roots are Aztec or somewhere near there.

Native South American, yet born in the US.

Its not exactly disingenuous that we assumed that his character was Native North American for a bit, and word is that he tried to give Chakotay similar origins to his own, but no one cared enough to listen.

Remember, according to the Voyager Bible, an assortment of Native Americans, from many tribes, got together, and said "fuck this" about the state of the planet in the early 2200s, and fled Earth.

    Which is odd.

    AntiFederationalism.

When American fell during WWIII... The Native Americans probably tried to take some land back, or at the very least fortified their reservations... And the United Earth when it started putting the planet back together said "No Special consideration" and took all the native land, in exchange for food and healthcare.

    Okay I get it now.

Fool me twice, shame on me.

This feels kinda weird. Negative comment after negative comment about working on Voyager, and even some harsh words towards fans. And now this? I don't know how active he's been in the last few years in terms of acting and work. But maybe he figured it's a few extra bucks for a day in a recording booth. I really hope that's not it.

A glitch in the holomatrix combines the Tuvok and Neelix holograms creating holographic Tuvix. Which is promptly deleted by holo-Janeway.

Perhaps holo-Janeway has a dog named Chakotay and Beltran provides the voice maybe?

Read somewhere it won't be season 1 of prodigy but maybe Season 2 ?? Honestly the Doctor hologram would make more sense, and a bit more fun!

Yeah, nothing says he's playing Chakotay. He could easily be voicing a new character.

I don’t know if lockdown has just rotted my brain, but I’m currently doing my first Voyager rewatch in nearly a decade and I actually kind of like Chakotay this time through. I think I’m one of about 6 people who actually got excited by this news.

why toss in legacy characters and actors for a show for supposedly new viewers? And of any of them, Chakotay? There is paneling more interesting than Chakotay.

"Nemesis" (probably the most Chakotay-centric VOY episode) was not only one of my favorite eps of the whole series, but one of my favorite Trek episodes of ANY series.

I'm just going to hazard a guess that if Beltran had gotten more episodes like that, his opinion of the show would be greatly improved.

In any case, whether or not he's playing Chakotay again now, it shouldn't be a big deal. Beltran's opinion can change over the years. He's had a lot of time to think. We should cut him some slack.

I mean, it's not like he was going "man, I can't believe I'm doing Star Trek!", his issues were with the specific writing of VOY. If he's agreed to return for STP (hell, what abbreviation are we supposed to use for Prodigy, anyway? ), I'm guessing he doesn't have a problem with how IT is being written.

That's one of the things that annoyed me about VOY. There was finally a major Native American character on TV, and in a Star Trek show no less, and they did... hardly anything with him. I worked at an agency that worked with our tribes in AZ and I was SO disappointed because I could see how cool it *could* have been. :sigh:

Given "PIC," I guess "PRO" would make sense.

They got him to play 'Chakotay' in the indie Star Trek: Renegades project before the fan film guidelines were announced and they quickly changed him to 'Cordero'

Probably more sense than STP, because that looks too much like motor oil.

The fans will call it PRO but somehow the official abbreviation will be PDG or PRG or something else awkward looking.

    PDG actually works well too.

then again, sometimes I still have to stop myself from calling Discovery STD.
