Watched it this past weekend on HBOMax. Was decent enough, enjoyable, but there was no way I was going to the theater to see this. Wasn't "must see" material to me and Mrs.Q2 had absolutely no interest in seeing it (not her cup of tea). Grade: B

25% less viewers than "Mortal Kombat" for a movie that cost almost four times as much. And unlike Disney+ Warner's don't get millions extra that they don't have to share with theaters to make up for the difference.

They put out a fun and engaging movie. Probably better it did poorly at the box office, no need to worry about a sequel ruining it.

    Oooo, I can't resist a list:

    WW
    Shazam
    Aquaman
    The Suicide Squad (2021)

    Justice League
    Suicide Squad
    Birds of Prey

    MoS

    BvS

I haven't seen Snyders JL or WW84 yet.

Nah, the Titans in the current show are almost as bad as the Suicide Squad. Maybe Legends of Tomorrow?

Edited: I meant to put JL above SS.

After seeing Snyder's Justice League, I don't think I'll ever be able to watch the theatrical cut again. :)

You're not alone. I know several people who threw their copies of Josstice League away after seeing Snyder's version.

The Snyder Cut comes to blu-ray next month on Sept 7th. I'm ready to marathon all DC films when it comes out.

I believe it’s the same as the UK version with the first 4 parts on one disc and the rest on another with only one featurette. No digital version sadly yet. Obviously they want you to have Max over there to see that.

All the CGI rats would be expensive for a CW show on a consistent basis, IMHO.

I quite like the ZSJL, and after re-watching WW84 recently, I found I liked it better than the first time around. There's still the issue about how Steve comes back, or at least in the manner in which he's present, but I found the other issues I had with it upon first watch to be less annoying.

I have to run in a minute, so I don't have time to reply specifically.... but yeah, definitely James Gunn, and the whole crew, seemed to have fun making this. John Cena enthusiastically wearing his costume during a Good Morning America interview sealed that one for me.

I appreciate fun and this movie DEFINITELY embraces the comic book-y ness of the movie...but for me, the violoence was over the top, but not for reasons of satire (like RObocop and Starshp Troopers seemed to be for me). It was more like a teenager being let loose "creatively" , or really like the tweets he was initially fired for from GotG3... he didn't actually repent of those (that, and how Peter Capaldi had the "mischievous schoolboy grin" when Starro said the Think "had his way with me" was like those "jokes").

We only had 3 previous people return... Harley was essentially "invulnerable", so Flagg died (but having some good moments). Catain Boomerang died so quickly...not sure if that was supposed to be a point, but seemed more like a waste. Harry Connick Jr. character in Indepence Day had slight more screen time, but in that instance, I was genuinely sad when his character died. Bommerang -- if you didn't see the 1st movie, you would've forgotten. They could've/should've done Killer Croc instead. And same with all of the other Expendable characters... never got to know them or anything. Like Mongal ... she SHOULD have had some improtance but wasn't

I wonder how @TREK_GOD_1 feels about this movie. It feels like it totally goes against his assertion that the DC Film Universe is a serious superhero universe, and not silly like Marvel can be.

Also, another random question is where does The Suicide Squad and Bloodsport's shooting of Superman fit into the timeline. I do NOT mean, how should the films be ordered, not a specific year .... but more like did his shooting of Superman take place 1 year, or 3 years or 5 years after Batman Vs. Superman (when Kryptonite was first "discovered").? TSS feels like it has taken place quite a bit after the events we have seen so far.

There pare where the team kill dozens of rebels and then their leader just kind of blows it off with "silly Americans!" kind of took me out of it for a while. Those were people she'd been fighting alongside with in life or death situations, probably were like family to her...she could have at least been a bit more angry.

(I get that it was a joke and yeah it was kind of funny but then later in the movie we're supposed to take that rebel leader character seriously and it feels weird.)

I think the issue most people had with WW84 was that she essentially raped a guy. Is Diana had the Y chromosome that never would have happened.

I did not say all DCEU movies were serious, if you've read my opinion on Shazam and the first Suicide Squad.

I've been wrestling with this one a little, it's very much a James Gunn film and it really looks like he was given close to free reign. Gunn got his start at Troma and there's some of that DNA in here.

As one of the few it seems that liked the first movie, I'm torn on whether it's a good "Suicide Squad" movie. The characters here don't really seem like villains. And it has a bit of a happier ever after at the end.

That said, the movie improves with each act and by the end it was working well enough on its own terms that it was actually annoying that it was sticking with the expendable nature of the characters. In particular, Polka Dot Man didn't feel like his fate was worth it.

There is a bit of a schism with the movie hitting the usual feel-good notes while having parts like the beginning and the sacrificial lambs. Waller is a bit of a cartoon with the over-the-top extortion but letting her team bonk her in the head without repercussion. Having Bloodsport yelling "Fuck You" over and over at his daughter was rather awkward and then to wrap it up in a bow with a "That's my Dad!" ending. Then you have the black humor of taking out the rebel forces and the "oops, my bad" treatment played kind of weird. It felt like it was having trouble finding its tone for a while.

The likability of the cast really helps make the movie go. Some interesting casting choices but yet they all mesh quite well and Gunn does a pretty good job with the banter between them. I wouldn't be surprised to see Daniela Melchior's star rise off of this. I found Weasel to be pretty nasty but I think that's the point.

I knew what reviews were like before watching this so I had lowered my expectations. Still, it was just an alright movie for me. I wouldn't rank it too highly over the previous suicide squad movie. I thought it was unnecessarily gory for the sake of it's R rating. Jame Gunn really let loose on his creativity and budget here but it wasn't for me.
My feeling as I left the theater was "I wonder what the Ayer Cut is like".

Ok, this is a lot harder than I expected since I'm not really blown away by the DCEU .

Loved it. Spoke to my adolescent inner self and my actual adolescent son's self. Saw it on the big 15/70 IMAX screen (about the only place I go to watch movies outside home these days). Gave it an A (because nothing's perfect ;) ).

As for lists (been entertained by each, just not to the same degree):
    Man of Steel
    Batman v Superman
    Wonder Woman
    Zack's Justice League
    The Suicide Squad
    WW 84
    Shazam
