Just wish they didn’t have to off Flagg and Polka Dot Man, but I guess they’ve got to live up to the titling.

Waller is lucky Flagg died. She sent him on the decoy team. He wasn't supposed to live. He must have pissed her off at some point. I could see Flagg shooting her in the head the moment he saw her next, knowing she wanted him dead (for whatever reason).

The control team got lucky. Guess they didn't know what happened to the last control team or they'd have finished her off.

I wonder what Superman was up to when he was too busy to fight a giant extra terrestrial mind controlling Kaiju.

I got as far as "3 days earlier" and decided it wasn't for me.

Honestly, I just don't think James Gunn is for me, either. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 was one of my least favorite MCU movies.

Getting ready to face Darkseid. He has no time for this “D level” stuff.
Yes, I know Starro is a JL villain (the first even) but he was defeated by rats. :)

I saw it yesterday in a theater and enjoyed it, but am leaning towards the first film being slightly better.

    Some comments/observations:
    * Margot Robbie was her usual badass self as Harley
    * I really should've seen the swerve in the mission coming, but I didn't
    * Six words: Peter * freaking * Capaldi as the Thinker
    * Seeing Birds of Prey for the first time Friday night really helped me appreciate the tone of the film, as well as the violence level
    * Starro was surprisingly effective as a 'final boss'
    * Idris Elba was kind of wasted as the Deadshot/Deathstroke-lite character of Bloodsport, although the bonding between him and Daniela Melchior's Cleo was kind of sweet
    * Moreso than the first film, this one gave me massive Wildstorm StormWatch vibes, which was neat
    * I really want to know where Cass Cain ended up since Harley had gotten pinched again, and when/why Harley got rid of her Rotten tattoo in-universe
    * John Cena hasn't really heretofore convinced me that he can do comedy effectively, but he did here, and his Peacemaker might actually be my second-favorite primary character from the film behind Harley even though he killed Flagg and was gonna kill Cleo
    * I'm torn between whether or not repeating certain beats from the first film was a good thing or a bad thing
    * I didn't get a chance to stay to see the post-credits scene, but did read online to find out what it was
    * I think it was a missed opportunity to not have played up the film's nature as a loose sequel in the marketing

Overall, this one was fun, and will definitely be joining my DCEU Blu-ray collection.

Sorry to be nitpicky, but the actress who played Ratcatcher was Daniela Melchior, not Dania Melchor.

Thank you. I was trying to remember her name without looking it up, and obviously got it wrong.

I watched it, it was enjoyable enough. The Starro stuff was the best part for me, liked how it looked and the creepiness of the possessed starfish people. It was a big CGI finale that didn't disappoint.

Cena and Elba were amusing together but both characters (especially Peacemaker) felt like they could have done with a bit more background information.

Margot Robbie was fun as always as Harley and I enjoyed her big fight scene...but she was so separate from the main storyline that it felt like you could have left her out the movie and it wouldn't have made much difference? But I like her.

The opening scene was amusing but Deadpool 2 kind of already did the same gag. I didn't really laugh out loud but most of the humour was smile worthy.

Capaldi was underused, he didn't even do anything super intelligent. I did like when he swore as it reminded me of Malcolm.

King Shark was basically Groot but he got to kill people in even more brutal ways so that was good.

Overall it was a lot of enjoyable stuff that didn't really come together into anything larger, for me. It didn't have the emotional heights of the Guardians movies, but to be fair it wasn't trying to. This was much more cynical (poor Polka Dot Man.) Maybe I prefer less cynical.

Definitely, especially when you get a bit further down and read this:
“Many chose to do just that as Suicide Squad emerged as the second most viewed film over an opening weekend on HBO Max since we began day-and-date releases with theaters.”

    Streaming has changed everything.

I loved it! I was skeptical if I would even liked it. I enjoyed the original Guardians of the Galaxy but was not until the second that I truly started to become a James Gunn fan. But watching some of his earlier stuff since was worried this would go much more dark comedy than I would appreciate. But truly loved this.

I recently signed up for HBO MAX again for something else. So I was not sure if I would see it in a theater. But totally worth it.

The best thing that could happen to Hollywood movies is Box Office being meaningless. The problem is they had worked under that mindset so long they are still adjusting to how to operate under this new dynamic. It could be a while before they know how to properly work in this new reality.

I've been a fan of Gunn for years and he has never disappointed me. I really liked the movie, it was fun. Nice to see Lloyd Kaufman get a brief cameo. I had a pet rat when I was younger so I really liked Ratcatcher. Seeing an army of rats take down a kaiju sized starfish really makes me want Squirrel Girl to show up in the MCU and unleash an army of squirrels. Seeing Starro was pretty great.

Do they actually say that Team 1 was a decoy? I don't remember.

There are reasons to believe that Team 1 maybe was not a "decoy team" at all. After all, the only reason Team 1 got ambushed and decimated is because Blackguard betrayed them. But Waller did not know that Blackguard was going to betray them. Obviously, once Team 1 got decimated, Waller had no choice to go with Team 2 to continue the mission. But I don't think that was the original plan.

I think a better theory is that Waller simply sent 2 teams to increase their odds of success. With two teams, if one fails, there is a back-up that can continue the mission. It just happened to be Team 1 that failed because of Blackguard's betrayal so Team 1 was tasked with continuing the mission.

Team 1 was definitely intended to be a distraction.

Waller might not have intended for them to be wiped out, but she was pretty clearly banking on Team 2 being the ones to get the job done.

Pretty sure they expressly said team 1 was decoy & strongly implied the betrayal was part of Waller's plan

This was the case for us. We had plans to see Black Widow in the theater, but with the rise of the Delta, we put that off. And I have no interest in paying $30 to see it if that doesn't include movie theater popcorn.
