DC Movies - To Infinity and Beyond

:bolian:

Affleck's portrayal of both Bruce Wayne and Batman in the Snyder cut is really spot on for how I see the character. He's a little bulkier than the 70's version I grew up with and always saw as a martial arts style fighter, but in terms of a contemporary Batman that fits in the MCU it is really as comics accurate as we've ever seen on film. Dialogue that came across as flippant attempts at humor in the original, now reveal a sardonic and wry wit that doesn't undermine the seriousness of the character. He holds his own in fight scenes. His interactions with Gordon are great. And his interactions with the League are exactly how Batman appears to me when I read the comics. A+ for Affleck now that I've seen how he was meant to appear.

Agreed. Affleck perfectly captured how a more experienced Batman/Wayne would see / interact with the world--similar to the way the comic version was written in the 70s and 80s. He's as tough as ever, but a bit more intolerant of threats / world weary.

I believe they have. They’re using Flashpoint to replace him with Keaton
There has not been much solid proof of that yet. There was an unofficial rumor sometime last year and every speculation is build on that since.

It’s clear WB and DC are open to multiple Batman on screen at the same time. Robert Pattinson’s Batman will not be affected by whatever happens in Flashpoint. Why permanently close the door if Affleck could return on HBO MAX, even it’s years from now?

Also let’s dissect what “Keaton replacing Affleck” would even mean. Where? In Justice League sequels? Right now, we do not even know that is currently in development. Appearing in other characters solo films? Really has been none of that in any of the DC movies yet.

Also Michael Keaton is significantly older than Ben Affleck. Do we except him to play a fully active Batman for years ahead? If he is being a mentor in the Batcave ala Batman Beyond is he really Batman at all anymore?

Keep in mind I am a huge fan of Keaton as Batman. But most of this assumption that Keaton “replaces” Affleck never thinks of those questions. Affleck never got his own solo Batman. I would rather Keaton get a solo third Batman in present day after Flashpoint without all the unnecessary ties to the greater DC Universe. Instead of being a supporting character in other people’s stories.

Almost every feature film version since Tim Burton's 1989 'Batman' has been in that vein as to the look of the costume.
I was thinking of the short ears, stockier build and older looking Batman with a simpler squarish chest emblem. That’s the DKR Miller Batman. The Burton, Schumaker and Nolan Batman had the leaner look and longer ears with stylized emblems influence by Neal Adams.

Back when Affleck was filming the second Superman movie, I believe Snyder acknowledged that that was where the inspiration for the design came from.

Yeah, between the older Batman, the fight between the heroes, the suggestion of a Robin who’d died in action, the costume and even Affleck’s build, I didn’t think there was any doubt about how Snyder drew inspiration from TDKR

Y'know, I loved TDKR, but that was *1986*. I bought it when it came out. It was awesome and groundbreaking and funnier than most people realize, but Holy Moley! Can we move on now? It is not (and probably was never intended to be) The Last Final Absolute Definitive Batman. IIRC, it wasn't even in continuity at the time!

I know some of the reason it's still a touchstone is demographics - people my age are making and consuming alot of this stuff - but I'm getting a little sick of it. It's like music - yes, I still listen to stuff from my teens, but it's not *all* I listen to. Give me something new!

OK, middle-aged geeklady rant over. :)

It was a big enough influence that they pulled some story elements and scenes from TDKR (the graphic novels) and put them directly on film for "Batman V. Superman".

I know, and that's part of what annoys me. I've already seen Frank's take - show me your (whichever writer) take.

For example, I'm currently reading Tom King's 3 year run on Batman (the comic). I'm really enjoying it. He got a *ton* of hate from people because it wasn't "their" Batman. Fine, they the right to their opinion and don't have to read it. But I love seeing someone come at the character from a different angle, even if it's not my cup of tea. (BTW, the double-date of Batman & Catwoman with Superman & Lois is *so funny*!)

This might be part of why I really enjoyed Aquaman and Shazam so much - these were takes on the characters I'd not seen before. I'm also curious for The Flash movie because Ezra Miller is different from how I've usually seen Barry without losing the essence of the character.

Keaton is 69 years old--not the wise, yet energetic Batman anyone is looking for on screen (which is what Affleck represents). Where's the confirmation of "replacing" Affleck with Keaton (or anyone else, for that matter?
