Levar Burton to be the next host of Jeopardy?

Matt's personal detail about being a "radical minimalist" seems to extend to his personality. He's sooooooo booooooring, and beginning all of his answers with "what" (even when it's a person!) is grating.
Yeah, that's driving me nuts, especially the "what" only answers. And occasionally dropping "a/the" when it should've been used. Another reason why I wanted Barb to win.

Unfortunately, he is only doing the one week with all the episodes taped on the same day.
True, but he had his wife's counsel with him so I'm hoping that'll guide him the right direction.

But it is bullshit that he only gets one week and it's during the Olympics. I've already seen reports of people not being able to see it either at the usual time or not at all because it was preempted by the Olympics. :scream:

If it's any consolation, Olympic viewership/ratings are way down; maybe viewers are tired of the tape delay because they already know the results, so they're watching another stations programs.

LeVar did a lot better today.

I haven't watched Jeopardy in, well, decades, but I swear at one point in time using the wrong interrogative would cause you to miss the "question" and the next person would buzz in, give the same answer only use the proper interrogative and get it right.

And it's no so much he always uses "What" he says "What's" instead of "What is..." and the way he shortens the topic names and question values is irksome too. He's playing similar to how a champ from a few years ago did who did the same thing, asked for the high-value clues first, switching topics, and shortening the category names and values to get through everything faster. (Though he was a little more spendy with the money, he probably would've put it all-in on the Final Jeopardy Monday night. Hell, I would have, I new that answer immediately.)

Yeah, it's not really fair to him or the show when it's up against that kind of competition. I don't know why they don't just postpone the show for the entirety of the Olympics for everyone. I mean, isn't NBC the American broadcaster for the Olympics?

Jeopardy is syndicated, they produce the show and put it out there to be bought and local stations buy it and air when they see fit. (They have a week to show them, but they're given some breaks if they're interrupted by national broadcasts from the network they are an affiliate of.)

In your area it may be on the NBC affiliate interrupted by The Olympics, in my area I think it's on CBS and not interrupted. In your area it may be on a 4 in the afternoon it may be on before the local news, in mine it's on at 6:30 after the local news before the national programing.

TNG and DS9 were done the same way.

The producers of Jeopardy are bound by contracts, agreements with unions and those who've bought to show, to produce them at a certain rate and to make them available. So they can't just go, "well, we're going to stop production because some of the people who bought the show can't play it because of the Olympics."

As much as I like LeVar....I'm pretty sure hes not gonna get it. He still seemed nervous his second night still. He only gets 5 chances and they were all filmed in one day. Two weeks would have been better. Bummer he only got one. I bet Mayim gets it. Shes the other guest host that really wants it. Her reviews were good across the board I think...

I wonder if his nervousness stems from the fact that fans helped put him there. So he is probably a bit worried he was gonna disappoint....

If Levar gets it, I may get to watch Jeopardy with some level of regularity. I liked him in Tuesday's episode. Still am really annoyed by returning camp guy.

"What's Ride?"

And he gets the answer counted as correct? Come on! That's BS. How is that an "answer" to the "question?"

But at this point, the episodes are already in the can, so there's no real loss if they were to decide to wait a few weeks later to broadcast them. They wouldn't be stopping production.

LeVar continues to be great and Matt continues to be boring (and annoying with his perpetual "What"), but what I really want to note is...

How did any of them not know the closing line for Apocalypse Now?! Bah!

This Matt guy is really taking the "fun" out of the game with how much he's just dominating and the way he answers questions and plays the game. The guy has no personality and he just makes me want to punch him.

Burton is doing a good job in the host role.

I'm so sick and tired of these guys like Matt and James Holzhauer who come on the show and play like zero-personality jagoffs and utterly dominate the game. It absolutely sucks the fun out of it. (And hands-down, the best part of the GOAT Tournament was watching Ken mop the floor with James.)

I'm spending so much of my viewing time yelling at the screen over this guy. He sucks.

I feel bad for LeVar; I'm not impressed with his performance so far, but he's got nothing to work with.

So far, LeVar's been getting better with each game, which is impressive when you consider that they taped all of his episodes in a single day. But you're absolutely right, having Matt there every day in the returning champ's podium is killing him. I half-expect tomorrow's personal tidbit in the interview segment to be that Matt once ordered red wine with his fish. Oooooooh, you rebel!

Trebek mentioned in his autobiography that one of the major roles for the Jeopardy host is to make the contestants the stars. But, like, how do you do that with this guy? You can't. I bet even a seasoned host would have a hard time with it, unless you throw shade at him constantly like I bet Trebek would have.

He's doing well, but dangit. I feel like he's kind of over selling it, compared to some others. I honestly think if he dialed back his "performing", he'd be doing perfect. The most important quality for this gig is to just kind of be natural & present, which I'm sure he's got, but for whatever reason, the short hosting stretch, the dull players... whatever, he's coming off unnatural imho

And tonight on "Matt Answers Clues," nothing unexpected happens.
Actually, I found it a little unexpected that he bet 30K on Final Jeopardy. I've been wondering when he'd up the stakes some. Those 2K daily doubles have been annoying the hell out of me. C'mon dude. You're dominating. Bet money. Especially now. There's charities that can get that money in the mix.
