That's "The Doomsday Machine" alright. It's the moment when the Constellation begins lurching forward under impulse power and the process is so jarring that Scotty has to grab onto the protective screen in the engine room to keep from being thrown around.

Not piling on at all - that surprises me! I love that they were able to redress the set that fast, and I love the term "revamp." And actually, in the two episodes in which it appeared, I thought the chapel was redress of the transporter room set, so count me as not everyone!

Now, how have we established that Auxiliary Control was not a redress (or revamp!) of the Briefing Room? ON EDIT: Never mind, I'm caught up! Thanks for the pic, Henoch!

 

That's it! Not the printed blueprints I remembered, but this incredibly cool cardboard set, which if I recall correctly was in Matt Jefferies' possession and maybe made by him. Thank you!

And now I'm wondering what Environmental Engineering was in Wink of an Eye. The shooting space looks like it was small enough that it could have been a redressed Auxiliary Control; the doorway seems like it was in the right position for either AC or the Briefing Room.

Another resource we might call upon is the production memo that might exist somewhere, in which Roddenberry or Justman surely wrote about getting Auxiliary Control and the Emergency Manual Monitor built for Year 2.

What stands out to me is that Wink's Environmental Engineering has the same distinctive blue carpet as the Briefing Room, while Auxiliary Control does not:

Based on that, it looks like Environmental was a redress of the Briefing Room.

Yup, I think you're both right. The curvature of the door looks like the briefing room, and I think the carpet color is the clincher. Also, the markings (grooves?) in the wall on the opposite side of the corridor, which are easily seen thanks to the Scalosians' understandable penchant for leaving the doors open, also seem to match.

Looking at that arch in auxiliary control from a different angle, at least in the case of "The Way to Eden," I'm doubting that it's an arch from the briefing room just moved over or whatever. The shape and size are different. I don't even know how fixed the briefing room arches were, anyway. It's clearly similar though, as if they were consciously thinking of ways the spaces inside the ship might be defined and being consistent about it.

 

You beat me to it. I love that they made both rooms (and I think they are separate per GNDN and Zap's lightning-quick research) look like they were part of an actual ship with exterior building constraints.

 

Auxiliary Control was a swing set they could set up and take down. At first it would be set up wherever it was convenient, so in the brig location, for instance. I believe the location on the model is where it was set up for the 3rd season uses. Many of the sets had wild pieces, so it's unwise to assume a given wall or rafter from a standing set indicates a swing set was built in its location.

 

At least some of those wall components would be repurposed for the Yonada control room:

The Auxiliary Control Room is most definitely an original build for The Doomsday Machine and not a re-use of any other existing set, although it did make use of the middle head-height Engine Room console - this became available after the Engine Room got a redesign at the start of Season Two. This is especially obvious when the console got a white paint job for its stint in the Cloaking Device room in The Enterprise Incident and then got plonked back into AC without having its original red colour scheme restored!

Other props and elements are also reuses from previous episodes - the viewscreen is an obvious one. The red grills were likely the same ones that Lazarus was rolling around on in the corridor in such a dramatic fashion.

Of course, AC wasn't always filmed from the left hand side of the room. In I Mudd and By Any Other Name it was filmed from the right and got set up in the "wild" area next to Kirk's quarters - this is obvious not only from the corridor glimpsed through the doorway but the door itself, which had gone from a double pocket door to a single!

Nah. There are two Auxiliary Control Rooms...one in the saucer (deck 8, single door) and another one in the secondary hull (double door). <ducks under desk>

Well there are at least two Engine Rooms, so why not two ACs?
In fact, the the room in BAON was identified as "life support control" in dialogue, so maybe there are 3 such rooms on the ship!
