Excuse the rambling I am about to spew out.

My first season DVD set for DS9 arrived this weekend. I now have all seven seasons.

I have been following the show since its debut. I taped every episode on video tape and I even purchased most of the first two season's eps on the old Paramount-produced video tapes that used to be common. So its not as if I never had access to all the episodes.

Still to get all 7 seasons on DVD was something of a goal of mine. Its been a year and half since I had purchased my last DS9 DVd set and I can't explain why it took me so long to get this last one to complete my collection. I guess for awhile I placed my focus on building up my movie collection instead. But now its done and I'm feeling a bit nostalgic about the whole thing. When the DVDs were first close to coming out (can't remember whether it was 2001 or 2002) I recall how excited people on this message board were. Even more I remember the excitement that had been generated on the now defunct AOL Trek message boards. Anyone here participated on those AOL boards? It feels like a lifetime ago. I was not in a financial position to buy all the DVDs unfortunately so I knew I had to hold off buying some of the seasons for awhile. I skipped the first season but when the second season hit the shelves months later I snapped it up. I would the use the little I had left on a credit card to buy season three when that came out. Then over the next two to three years I would pick up seasons four, five and six. By the time I got around to buying season seven my economic situation had really improved and, ironically, the prices had been much reduced anyway.

And now its all done and I can say that I can't sit back and watch the series unfold all over again but this time via a DVD quality format. And I must say the seven sets look beautiful when standing shoulder-to-shoulder on a shelf. How many here have purchased all seven seasons on DVD by the way? DS9 and B5 are the two series that I can claim ownership of every single season.Who says you can't love both shows?

Of course I may have to soon start worrying about doing all this over again for the blue-ray edition.

Congrats on finally completing the collection NKemp3.

Even though my season sets are falling apart (They didn't have the money for better packaging like the TNG ones had?) they still look really nice on the shelf. I don't ever regret getting DS9 on DVD and it's good to know that while it might never be on TV again, I can still view them when I want or when I have time.

Congrats! I'm glad that you finally have all seven.

I was so happy when I got all of mine. I can't remember caring about a DVD set more.

HEy congrats, DS9 is the only trek I really really wanted all seasons of and wished for new seasons every b-day and xmas and it felt so good when I had all 7 :D

And yeah it sucks that I will probably have to go through the whole process with Blue Ray

Congratulations. I just wrapped up my DS9 DVD collection last November. I'm not anticipating upgrading to blue ray anytime soon. I won't be converting to HD for several months, at least, and when I make the jump to blue ray it'll have to be a player that will support the DVD format in order to get my dollars. I've accumulated too many DVD's to just get rid of them now.

Congrats! :)

I remember how awesome it felt when I picked up S7 on release day.

So did I. I was sick and fainted in class and had my friend go and pick up DS9 that day. I was much appreciated for that, even though I could have waited. It was a scary day, but a memorable one.

All Blu-ray players play (and will continue to do so) DVDs just fine.

Do they all do that? I'll admit I haven't bothered to do the market research since I'm not going to be in the market for one for a while, but I was under the (apparently mistaken) impression that some did and some didn't, depending on the manufacturer.
