Playmates Toys

Am I the only one who is slightly wary of this news? Only because the last time Playmates held the license we got the 09' Star Trek figures. Personally I liked them, but they were a far cry from the quality Playmates used to put out. Then again I suppose 2021 is as far removed from 2009, as 2009 is from 1997 when we had the 4.5 scale, so anything's possible I guess.
No, I am not wary. I am honestly excited because ST 09 was the last time I felt a genuine level of excite for Star Trek merchandise in a while, and I am hopeful that they actually get creative with this line up. I am prepared to be disappointed but honestly this is what I have wanted for years.

I liked the larger figures from Trek ‘09. But the little ones were terrible.

I think it’s too much to ask that we get a direct continuation of the original 4.5 inch line.

Largely because that scale is unusual in the current toy market. So that would be aiming squarely at the collector market.

For sure. I could see them doing what they did for Trek ‘09 and what Star Wars does. A 3.5-4 inch line and a 6 inch line.

It would let them go super nuts on the smaller line with character selection. And let them be a little more curated on the 6 inchers, be a little more focused on main characters.

I know they are starting off with the Paramount+ stuff but I wonder how long until they mix in TOS-ENT and the movies.

Probably not long. Also, if they are starting with Paramount+ stuff why does the first figure in the announcement picture look like Geordi? Unless my eyes are messing up. Could be.

I imagine 6 inches will be the first target, and then maybe 3.75/4 inch line. 6 inch is far more standard now so it would surprise me if 6 inch didn't come out strong.

really. That makes it even more puzzling that they never did the crew in the Monster Maroons. Not counting the illegitimate Kirk, Scotty and Checkov from Generations.

What I largely saw was a desire to use the three colors. So, TNG and TOS played with that far more than anything else.

If they intend to sell phaser role play toys in US retail stores, they might now have to be in bright non-realistic colors like white, yellow, or even lime green with big orange caps on the barrels.

Because y'know, people can't tell the difference between phasers and real guns...

This is the country were a person called the cops on a Subway for putting pickles on his sandwich. No, they can't.

Also, if it goes through California (likely due to the number of docks) CA has even stricter rules.

Whoa! How did I miss this announcement?!?!

Count me in as happy to read this: I’m hoping they do a starships line! :D

That’s what paint is for.
