Playmates Toys

I’d be fine if they stuck with the slightly cartoony look the first line had.

I do hope when they get to the classic series they have the same “deep bench” of character selection they did the first time around.

Shipwise, who does a Cerritos first, Playmates or Eaglemoss.

Good bet Prodigy will be the main kids line (which is great) but I rather suspect Playmates will look at the success of the Star Wars Black Series and Marvel Legends 6" inch lines and decide a collectors line in that scale is the way to go for legacy characters/series.

I am just excited to see what they have in store.

Wonder what this means for the new Reaction TNG figures...

Sir, I believe I speak for everyone here when I say...WE'RE SAVED.

Playmates were the best Star Trek toy manufacturer we ever had. I can't wait! Here's hoping we get an electronic lights and sounds USS Discovery and USS Cerritos! :techman:
AA/DST was also really good. Maybe they'll show more of the ships and props in the shows then XD

They will finish out their contract.

I would guess the reaction stuff won’t go beyond what’s already set for release but it depends on if Playmates license is exclusive or not.

look at something like Marvel and Star Wars and how Funko gets around the other toy license to do POPs and other merch.

Star Wars works with a variety of producers. They use both Mattel for the Disney Toybox line action figure line, Hasbro for the 3.75 and 6" action figure line up, Sideshow Collectibles and Gentle Giant for more sculptures, as well as Funko as noted. Power Rangers is being produced by both Hasbro and Super 7, who is doing the Retro series.

Licensing will depend largely on what the contract stipulates, and I would not be surprised if exclusivity was no longer on the table.

The Star Trek: Prodigy stuff should turn out really well. And especially if they go straight from the CG designs for the series, that should turn out great.

Do Janeway exactly like how she's going to look...

Make the action figure look exactly like that and you'll have something there... Although, that might require a premium version or something.

It's cool to see Star Trek: Prodigy get this kind of push. They must really believe in it.

I'm not holding my breath, but it's positive they've got a deal with a big company again. I honestly think they could do worse than return to the classic 4.5" scale, which still represents the best ever Trek toy range.

Am I the only one who is slightly wary of this news? Only because the last time Playmates held the license we got the 09' Star Trek figures. Personally I liked them, but they were a far cry from the quality Playmates used to put out. Then again I suppose 2021 is as far removed from 2009, as 2009 is from 1997 when we had the 4.5 scale, so anything's possible I guess.

Hopefully they'll have learned from that disaster!
