Playmates Toys

Re: the ReAction figures. I said in another thread:

And it's a "feature" of the whole ReAction brand that the figures look kind of fake. They're supposed to be reminiscent of action figures from the late '70s or early '80s, with simpler sculpts and less articulation. Check out the ones they did for Back to the Future, Alien, Rocky, RoboCop, etc.

There are several other properties they have done figures of, besides the ones I mentioned. And I think they all have a similar design aesthetic.

Personally, I don't enjoy the aesthetic of the ReAction figures (I think actual figures from the late '70s and early '80s generally looked better than that). But I understand what they were going for.

Really? I haven't had much issue finding them for around 10 or so.
If we are talking the Galoob TNG figures from the '80s, certain ones go for a lot if you can find them in the package. The Selay and Q, for example. Those can run somewhere around $50 to $80 each.

Ah. I'm not a collector so I'm not worried about in package.

I mostly want them in package so i know there in good shape. I'm a collector of sorts though the only ones i will go out of my way to find are Playmtes Star trek, Transformers and GI Joe spin off Sgt. Savage and his Screaming Eagles, a short lived but intesrting line with a cool astatic.

Makes sense. I have the best luck with local vintage vendor malls. Lots of different figures pop up in packaging or clam shelled and in fair condition.

Hey everyone, long-time lurker and first time poster.

I hope I'm putting this in the right forum, but I couldn't find a merch section and hopefully this post will appeal to fans of all series.

I recently started an Instagram page photographing my Playmates Toys collection from the 90s. I have all of the 4.5" figures as well as practically all of the role-playing accessories and many of the ships. Instead of leaving them to get dusty in my attic, I thought I'd take photos of every item to share with other nostalgic Star Trek fans.

I'm starting with the TNG assortments, but will move on to DS9, VOY and the movies soon. I try and share interesting tidbits about the characters/episodes in the descriptions, so hopefully you guys will find it of some interest.

The link to the page is www.instagram.com/startrekplaymates

I'd welcome any feedback from you and really hope you enjoy the posts. Thank you.
I like those and have some too. I was never able to get the O'Brien from the Tribbles episode cause it costs too much though. Some places I saw a bridge playset for the Original Series as a prototype, it didn't go to market. I wish it had. Those guys are Awesome and deserve a better place to hang out than the cardboard package.

The expertise and ingenuity they plan to bring to figures, ships and more will elevate the play experience for kids and collectors alike.”
Yes, focus on the play aspect not the :censored:ing collectors, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Toys are meant to be played with. Collectors drive me nuts.

I better start saving my money now. Too many toys to buy come December and 2022 now.:brickwall: First world problems, I know.

If I remember right, near the end of the line they did a separate “deluxe” line of figures geared more towards the adults in addition to the regular line.

I think they only got around to 7 of 9 and the Borg Queen before the entire line tanked. So maybe that’s what they mean by kids and collectors alike. There will be more of a premium (read: expensive) line and a normal line.

plus, when they did the toys for the first JJ movie, they had 3.5 inch figures that were terrible but had pieces for a bridge play set. And a 6 inch figure line that wasn’t too terrible. So maybe something like that is in the cards.

Yea, the Abrams line impressed me less as I got more of it. Some where OK and I wish they had done the second wave, but it obviously didn't do that well. Now, in the secondary market they sell for a bit more.

My biggest curiosity is scale and playsets.
