Section 31: I hope it still happens.

It was just announced that Yeoh will be in a Netflix movie. As soon as I saw this I figured it was one more nail in the S31 show coffin as it looks like she has more room on her plate for other non-Trek stuff. But this is just my wild speculation.

Considering that 31 is not due to begin filming until one of the in-progress Trek series wrap, so AT LEAST another year, hammering in that nail is wildly premature. Like, what, she’s supposed to just sit and wait for a time frame she KNOWS to be more than another year, because we have Kurtzman on record that the plan is to wait out one of the in-production series, waiting to be called up to the sets that haven’t been built yet? A movie is a couple months of her time, when she already has the hole in her schedule, still leaving her plenty of time to be ready when 31 is.

I stand by the idea that BECAUSE she is such an in-demand actress right now, and she clearly WANTS to return to Star Trek and Georgiou, this will get off the ground eventually.

Yeah, i agree it is all speculation. It just doesn't "feel" like it will ever happen. It just keeps getting pushed back in preference for other new or old shows.

I think the larger point needs to be kept in mind that schedules are completely different now. So, do I think it will happen? Yes. Do I think they will discuss it at all? Nope, because they have other shows ahead of S31 in the schedule.

Yeoh is "just putting out there" the possibility of more Georgiou on STD.

Which is a roundabout way of saying that Section 31 is MIA.

If Picard does end after 3 seasons then S31 could replace it, otherwise it stays on hold. So its fate is in the hands of sir Patrick, who I think is the person that decides how long Picard will go.

A compromise to have more Michelle Yeoh on DSC (or PIC for that matter) is to just have her play a descendent of Captain Georgiou or her family.

In a more rough-and-tumble 32nd Century, where everything's fallen apart, you can have the bad-ass martial artist character everyone knows the creators want to have, but without the baggage of the Mirror Universe. So they'll have the type of character they want (and I want) while eliminating the issues other people had at the same time.

Or it could even be a descendent of Emperor Georgiou herself.

Michelle Yeoh's already played two versions of (a) Georgiou. The third time's the charm.

Unless the producers and studio think there's enough juice in the stories of the new characters and Seven of Nine to sequelize it.

Let’s not rule out flashbacks to the Shenzhou and Captain Georgiou - this was an influential part of Michael’s life, and now that she’s in the center seat, she might think back on the old days to help guide her. Or messages from the past for the Discovery crew.

It’d be a way to have Michelle Yeoh engaged while waiting for the schedule to free up for 31 without stepping on their own toes.

Prime universe Georgiou was an ok character. Mirror Universe Georgiou was an annoying, grating character that absolutely does not deserve a show of her own, especially a show about those Section 31 assholes that interests me not one bit.

YMMV.

With Michelle Yeoh now cast in The Witcher spin-off a new Trek series with her in the lead seems a long way off...

The Witcher series in question is only being spoken of as a limited series, and while she’s said to be a “key role,” that doesn’t mean “lead/starring role.” Q played a key role in TNG, for instance.

And, again, she’s still free to do other roles while 31 is not in active production. Michelle Yeoh is someone who is both in demand AND clearly wants to play Georgiou again. Paramount is certain to work with her if she wants to come back. But until 31 enters active production, she is not bound by contract to clear her schedule, and has every reason to take other roles available to her.

They have said 31 won’t enter active development until another series wraps. Picard is the most likely contender to conclude first, but it’s still due a third season and season two hasn’t aired yet.

This news changes nothing in terms of 31. It just means that we’re still in the same state of it not having entered active production yet, waiting for a Trek series to wrap up.

I think S31 is the backup for Picard. If Sir Patrick decides 3 seasons is enough then they will replace Picard with S31. I would rather see Picard continue so I hope this doesn't happen.

Well what do you know? It looks like the Sectibon 31 series isn't dead after all, COVID-19 just threw a big wrench in the works, but Kurtzman and Co. want it to happen:

Lies. After all, Kurtzman is fired ;)

I think having a show in the wings, either 31 or another, makes sense. Stewart isnt going to want to work forever so that show, more than the others, has a distinct shelf-life.
