Justice League official "Zack Snyder" cut on HBO Max

My thought is: First, we get HBOMax through our cell phone service. If I ever want to watch it again, I can. Second, while I enjoyed it for the most part, it’s not a movie I see myself revisiting that often, if ever.

I may or may not have seen it 5 or 6 times already. I know people will complain it can't be that good to warrant so many rewatches. And yes, there are flaws.
But whiney macwhinewhines tend to only focus on the flaws. There is so much that is so good about the Snyder cut, that I can accept the flaws and always enjoy the amazing ride it is.

Agreed, which is why there's no way I'm missing ZSJL on 4K. So few present day films ever inspire me to purchase the physical media version, but this is one of those rare exceptions.

Had this on my Watched Threads list, but never had time to type... thought i would throw in a few thoughts while I have a minute.

For me, whatever "good" things the Snyder version had , it was balanced by a lot of things, for me, which were negative.

To Sum it up, it makes the Snyder League feel like a rip off of Infinity Wars, but with generally less characterization

The Coda scenes, which please correct me if I am wrong , was supposed to be for Justice League 2, right? If so, it also felt like Batman vs. Superman 2, since Batman is leading the resistance, once again fighting Superman, who once again isn't in his right mind. And i presume that Flash would have helped to stop this scenario, so we have another time travel fixing things, which feels like ENdgame, and even the first Superman movie (though, as has been argued, would be "less selfish" than Superman in the original TMP).

Michael Beo-Wolf doesn't look that much more impressive with the fluttering armor that reminds me of the OVERLY detailed Transformers, and seems "weaker" in this , emotionally/mentally.

Darkseid seems like Thanos but with much less characterization. All he seems to do is grunt. He doesn't appear to have the intelligence and plotting patience of Thanos. Tobias Whale of Black Lightning is a much more of a 1st Rate Nemesis, despite not having the power levels of Darkseid.

My dream of how they SHOULD have done Justice Leagye would be that you DO center on a "minor" character, since everyone would have already been interested to see a movie with Superman and/or Batman (since they have had a lot of live action exposure already). With Cyborg, most of those newer scenes were filmed during COvid , right? A little obvious, but understandable. My problem with it, though, is that they killed Silas Stone, who could have provided more drama for the Cyborg solo film. They covered his origin and early "exploits" (mostly helping a poor woman get a lot of money), so I am not sure what his solo movie could be about.

Much of the new Flash scenes really were NOT neccesary, so Ray Fisher's claim of racism of that portion, to me, was unfounded. Not a BAD scene by any means, but while it fit in a 4 hour movie (and great in a solo movie), i could see it being cut for even a 2 1/2 hour movie. I think the new Iris will work out well. And i get that the film was showing Barry trying to get a job, as he has been "drifting" for a while apparently. But when he got the CSI job (well, in that department), it negated to me him getting the other pet job.

As far as I remember, Ezra Miller's character still "feels" the same....and that's good, He was a good balance to the others. I still think they could have added the CW Flash when they first developed this movie.... but Ezra works out well for what has been produced.

General Swanwick as Martian Manhunter was a post Covid addition, right? (And a substitute for Green Lantern, right)? He just seemed tacked on, and the retcon didn't seem like an amazing revelation or anything.

The extra battle scenes (i guess, hard for me to mentally compare) with the 1st Battle against Darkseid, and then Michael Beo-Wolf and the Amazons were good... just didn't notice how much more they added to anything. (I.e. it didn;t change my perspective on the significance of those scenes)

@trek_god makes fun of us who want to see "Challenge of the Superfriends." I just saw an episode with my 10 year old... OK, yeah, the dialogue and plotting is simplistic, but what made it dear to my heart was that it was Team vs. Team...which would have been more original in this Cinematic era. We already had the galatic overlord trying to take over Earth/the universe with Thanos.

Having a TRUE LEGION of Doom (and it could be called that as simply a one-liner easter egg) would have made it exciting. Possibly have a couple villains start a problem, and 2 or 3 heroes meet up to fight, but they kinda "come out of nowhere" like Wonder WOman in Batman vs. Superman (funny scene, but also extremely exciting when Wonder WOman's theme played and she was revealed)

It would be kind of ironic that villains inspire heroes to team up, and again more original. And having a Legion would have given opportunity for actors to shine and quickly establish a Rogue's gallery of worthy and interesting antagonists.

Remember this would have been before Avengers Endgame. That movie is a copy of this

None of them copied the other, just the unfortunate timing and use of villains and plotting makes it easy enough to compare.

But we knew it would be inevitable when we heard Darkseid would be the big bad knowing the Marvel movies were already leading to an infinity gauntlet story. But really and truly, we all know nothing was really "stolen" in this case, on either side (yes, yes, the origins of the characters in comics had some swiping but that's not what's being talked about)

..and we cannot forget that in the comics, Thanos' creator (Jim Starlin) shamelessly ripped off Kirby's Darkseid (which predated Thanos by three years in the pages of Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen). Starlin claimed Roy Thomas pushed him toward making Thanos more like Darkseid, but there are a few Thomas interviews where he stated Starlin copy+pasted Darkseid when his character was originally pitched. From that point, any adaptation of Thanos just comes off as not all that original.

Thanos was more Metron than Darkseid. Only the bulkiness of Darkseid was encouraged as I recall.
Again, nothing to do with the timing of their use in the movies though.

I wish I had time to watch a 2-hour movie in one sitting these days let alone a 4-hour movie five or six times. We don’t watch a lot of TV these days, my wife can’t sit through a 45 minute show most nights without falling asleep and my son is two, so…

I wish I had that life. Single these days, no kids. And there was lockdown ofcourse.

Grass is always greener and all of that…
Honestly, while I love the idea of being able to watch movies on a whim, I wouldn’t trade my family for anything.

Finding someone to share a life with (unlike my ex who basically lied for 11 years) and raise a familiy with..... I'd trade all fo the movies I can watch for a shot at that

I wish you well in finding that someone. It took me a long time to find the right one.

Hmm... sounds like you took the words right out of @Christopher 's mouth again (is that why he hasn't replied :) ? )

Yeah, technically you are right. But only the hardcore fans will really care. Most of the movie watchers who did both will see Darkseid as a lame copy. While Infinity Wars came out AFTER JL, Thanos was talked LOOOONG before JL. And when he DID show up, he had SOME personality. If what we saw was how Darkseid really would have been like in theaters... blech. Not much better than Parallax in Green Lantern or Galactus in Fantatsic FOur : Rise of the SIlver Surfer. He may not have been as masterfully crafted as Tobias Whale, but Thanos in the movies definitley had more depth than those i mentioned.

this is really kinda like Babylon 5 and Deep Space 9. i personally think the top brass at Paramount ripped out the general concept of Babylon 5 (i.e. a diverse space station that comes to have galactic importance), but the creatves actually involved with DS9 made it their own, such that we have TWO shows that we can enjoy.

I would have LIKED to have really loved Justice League as I do Avengers , but sorry... it contributes to my view of the DC Film Universe.

Horrors! Seriously, endless numbers of fans have pointed out the Darkseid / Thanos situation, and I remember it as it happened in the comics, which is why I would always see Thanos as a rip-off.

Thanos sucked even before Darkseid.

I take it you mean the movie Thanos appearing on screen before movie Darkseid.

Finally got to see it. As with Wonder Woman 84, I'm not going to get into any lengthy debates about this one either (had my fill of those with earlier arguments about "Snyderman" and other such drivel).

Was it perfect? Not by a long shot. I'd have trimmed at least 30-45 minutes, though in little snips here and there, mostly.

Likes in no particular order (except no. 1):
  1. It's NOT the Whedon version. Whatever its shortcomings, it's 1000x better than the other version.
  2. The greater focus on Cyborg and his father.
  3. Superman's return was done better.
  4. Martian Manhunter (though not as well integrated as it could have been).
  5. Flash's time reversal scene.
  6. NOT the Whedon version. ;) (I did not miss the Aquaman sitting on the lasso confession, among many other things.)
  7. More Alfred.
Disappointments:
  1. The scene with the Joker (the whole Knightmare Part II thing). I know why they did it. Didn't find it necessary (a 30 sec. version to tie into the original one from BvS would have been enough--mostly to tie in Barry's scenes together).
  2. The musical score. I was EXTREMELY happy the Elfman score was gone (NOT a fan) but I was not overly impressed with the replacement (except when individual character themes from others were used). Would have preferred Zimmer.
  3. Was expecting a bit more Lois (but that could be a personal bias rather than an actual shortcoming of the film  ).
Overall, I'm glad it was made and I got to watch it. I much preferred it to the Whedon version. However, I don't think it needs further exploration, despite the "open-ended" nature of the film's conclusion. IF there needs to be a "tying up of loose ends" (I don't think it necessary, nor do I especially want one), then a brief scene in the upcoming Flash movie can do it (I leave it to proper creative types to figure out the nuts and bolts--again, IF such is deemed necessary).

In the end, of the kind of but not really trilogy, by far my favourite is Man of Steel, followed by the director's cut of BvS, then this. And that's my 2 cents' take on it.

Nope.

Just because one show precedes another does not suggest influence. Trust me, even if someone at Marvel had managed to see Snyder Uncut while they were early in preproduction on their films there is nothing here that would motivate their people to say "yeah, we should do that thing that DC did." :guffaw:
