Had this on my Watched Threads list, but never had time to type... thought i would throw in a few thoughts while I have a minute.
For me, whatever "good" things the Snyder version had , it was balanced by a lot of things, for me, which were negative.
To Sum it up, it makes the Snyder League feel like a rip off of Infinity Wars, but with generally less characterization
The Coda scenes, which please correct me if I am wrong , was supposed to be for Justice League 2, right? If so, it also felt like Batman vs. Superman 2, since Batman is leading the resistance, once again fighting Superman, who once again isn't in his right mind. And i presume that Flash would have helped to stop this scenario, so we have another time travel fixing things, which feels like ENdgame, and even the first Superman movie (though, as has been argued, would be "less selfish" than Superman in the original TMP).
Michael Beo-Wolf doesn't look that much more impressive with the fluttering armor that reminds me of the OVERLY detailed Transformers, and seems "weaker" in this , emotionally/mentally.
Darkseid seems like Thanos but with much less characterization. All he seems to do is grunt. He doesn't appear to have the intelligence and plotting patience of Thanos. Tobias Whale of Black Lightning is a much more of a 1st Rate Nemesis, despite not having the power levels of Darkseid.
My dream of how they SHOULD have done Justice Leagye would be that you DO center on a "minor" character, since everyone would have already been interested to see a movie with Superman and/or Batman (since they have had a lot of live action exposure already). With Cyborg, most of those newer scenes were filmed during COvid , right? A little obvious, but understandable. My problem with it, though, is that they killed Silas Stone, who could have provided more drama for the Cyborg solo film. They covered his origin and early "exploits" (mostly helping a poor woman get a lot of money), so I am not sure what his solo movie could be about.
Much of the new Flash scenes really were NOT neccesary, so Ray Fisher's claim of racism of that portion, to me, was unfounded. Not a BAD scene by any means, but while it fit in a 4 hour movie (and great in a solo movie), i could see it being cut for even a 2 1/2 hour movie. I think the new Iris will work out well. And i get that the film was showing Barry trying to get a job, as he has been "drifting" for a while apparently. But when he got the CSI job (well, in that department), it negated to me him getting the other pet job.
As far as I remember, Ezra Miller's character still "feels" the same....and that's good, He was a good balance to the others. I still think they could have added the CW Flash when they first developed this movie.... but Ezra works out well for what has been produced.
General Swanwick as Martian Manhunter was a post Covid addition, right? (And a substitute for Green Lantern, right)? He just seemed tacked on, and the retcon didn't seem like an amazing revelation or anything.
The extra battle scenes (i guess, hard for me to mentally compare) with the 1st Battle against Darkseid, and then Michael Beo-Wolf and the Amazons were good... just didn't notice how much more they added to anything. (I.e. it didn;t change my perspective on the significance of those scenes)
@trek_god makes fun of us who want to see "Challenge of the Superfriends." I just saw an episode with my 10 year old... OK, yeah, the dialogue and plotting is simplistic, but what made it dear to my heart was that it was Team vs. Team...which would have been more original in this Cinematic era. We already had the galatic overlord trying to take over Earth/the universe with Thanos.
Having a TRUE LEGION of Doom (and it could be called that as simply a one-liner easter egg) would have made it exciting. Possibly have a couple villains start a problem, and 2 or 3 heroes meet up to fight, but they kinda "come out of nowhere" like Wonder WOman in Batman vs. Superman (funny scene, but also extremely exciting when Wonder WOman's theme played and she was revealed)
It would be kind of ironic that villains inspire heroes to team up, and again more original. And having a Legion would have given opportunity for actors to shine and quickly establish a Rogue's gallery of worthy and interesting antagonists.
