Spoilers Stranger Things - Season 4

Robert Englund was all V for me. (I've only seen one of the Freddie films and that was the crossover one).

I'd seen Sarah Jane after Thrones (Though theoretically, after looking at imdb, I should have seen Tom Wlasciha in Valkyrie and The Deep first, though I don't particularly recall The Deep at all and Valkyrie I guess was a small role?). I do remember him for Crossing Lines too.

Eduardo Franco will be playing Argyle, Johnathan's new best friend, who is "a fun loving stoner who proudly delivers delicious pizza pies for Surfer Boy Pizza".

With this series' leaning on copy+pasting 1980s movie characters or types, I fear this "fun loving stoner" description--if accurate--might mean "Argyle" being a clone of Jeff Spicoli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

We're still a ways to go from even getting a premiere date but we did get a teaser today to remind us that the season is coming...and Eleven wasn't the only test subject:

Hmm, so I wonder if that means we'll get to more of the other test subjects?

While we still don't have news of the season premiere or even a trailer, there is a whole lot of other news.

Four new people have joined the cast:

New cast members are Amybeth McNulty, Myles Truitt, Regina Ting Chen, and Grace Van Dien. McNulty plays Vickie, “a cool, fast-talking band nerd who catches the eye of one of our beloved heroes.” Truitt is Patrick, “a Hawkins basketball star who has friends, talent, and a good life... until shocking events send his life spiraling out of control.” Ting Chen is Ms. Kelly, “a popular guidance counselor who cares deeply for her students—especially those struggling the most.” And Van Dien is Chrissy, “Hawkins’ High lead cheerleader and the most popular girl in school. But beneath the seemingly perfect surface lies a dark secret.”

The Duffer Brothers introduce McNulty in particular in this short Twitter video.

Starting on June 29, Robin will be hosting a six-part fictional podcast called Rebel Robin leading up to a new novel of the same name, written by by A.R. Capetta. Here's a trailer for the podcast:

Lastly, Stranger Things will be incorporated into two games, SMITE and Magic: The Gathering. I've never heard of the first one and I never got into the second, but I imagine that's exciting news for people who do play them.

The show is still filming in Atlanta so I guess we won't be getting the next season anytime soon so these new tie-ins will have to do for now.

I hope that does not mean Lucas or Mike, which would make them seem shallow (yes, not an uncommon trait among some teens, but still...) to move on from their significant others, which so much had been made of their relationships surviving through drama.

Sorry, still no news for the season itself, but we're getting another comic:

From writer Greg Pak, artist Diego Galindo, colorist Francesco Segala, and letterer Nate Piekos, Tomb of Ybwen takes place after the second season of the show. Here’s how Dark Horse sets up the story:

It’s January 1985. The Hawkins crew survived their battle with the terrible Mind Flayer, but Will is still reeling from the recent death of Bob Newby. Will’s friends have been too busy with their girlfriends to notice how much he is struggling. However, Will finds a way to bring the team back together again when he and Mr. Clarke discover a mysterious map Bob left in a box of old nerdy memorabilia. Will rallies the crew to investigate and they find more than they could have imagined. Stranger Things: Tomb of Ybwen explores grief and friendship all while capturing the Stranger Things’ sense of adventure.
I haven't gotten all of the comics, but this one sounds very cool and actually addresses something season 3 didn't really cover, i.e. Will's grief over Bob's death. Besides, I'm always a sucker for quest, 80's style.

By the time they announce the date of the new season of this show I will need to rewatch the prior 3. I've almost forgotten everything that happened in this show. Also, aren't the kids now teenagers?

Yeah, I've already decided I'm going to rewatch all three seasons as soon as we find out when season four drops.

As for the kids, the actors are all currently 16 (Noah Schnapp) through 19 (Caleb McLaughlin) right now.

I am hoping that the season is being re-written to accommodate this real world time gap. There is no reason why we can't have a three year time gap between seasons and set the new episodes in 1988--that would actually give more weight to the Season 3 finale.

It would be foolish not to - they all either went through puberty or are in the middle of it meaning they changed a lo in this 2-3 year gap. Given the season 3 finale it wouldn't be hard to write a multiyear separation.

Yeah, the kids are at an age where they change a lot in 3 years. I checked and the kids are 16 to 19, so we're talking about 13-16, 14-17, 15-18, and 16-19

I could've sworn I remember reading that they had already filmed a large portion of season 4 before COVID force them to shut down but according to Wikipedia, they only filmed two weeks. So I guess such an adjustment may have happened. But considering they were already expanding their focus beyond Hawkins, it's probable they were already planning to do that time jump.

We finally have a season four sneak peak!

It's not much but it's something!

Alas, the season won't drop until sometime next year. So we still have at least another four months of waiting.

Still no release date beyond 2022. Hopefully it's within the first couple of months!

...and, wow, Gaten and Caleb have aged a lot. I didn't even recognize Gaten's voice at first!

Was it the accent? ;)

Interesting sort of haunted/horror element there which hasn't been an element before. Seeing Sadie Sink there it put me in mind a little bit of the Fear Street movies and their connecting of past and "present".

I'm getting a impression they are moving on from the Goonies vibe to the Scooby Gang. We might be seeing more of a supernatural component to the show but still connected to what we have seen before.
