It's a tough one - I liked the teaser as well. John de Lancie is fantastic and Q is a firm favourite of mine. At the same time, I have zero confidence in those in charge.

Guess they cancel each other out and leave me at neutral.

I think it's deliberate: note that Picard is also wearing *four-pip* versions of the updated "trapezoid"-shaped admiral rank bars and we haven't seen those on-screen before so they're NEW for this season. It was pretty obvious that they would exist between Clancy's five-pip version and Oh's single-pip but they weren't in S1.

Things were busy for me yesterday, but I did see the trailer yesterday. Color me intrigued. "That's it?" Yeah. I'm pressed for time. Okay, I lied, one item.

I think "the path not taken" might have to do with what would've happened if the Federation had aided the Romulans and Picard hadn't left Starfleet. If the Romulans joined the Federation, a post-war Federation that was already changing I might add, it might've driven them even further down a certain path. But, then again, we also see (what I assume to be) the 21st Century, so the "path not taken" might go even deeper than that, or Q is showing Picard several different paths. Maybe to do with Picard's regret over the choices he's made and what he did or didn't do.

Apologies if I'm re-iterating something someone else said. I haven't read most of the thread yet.

Wrong uniforms and badge for a flashback. They're wearing the 2399 uniforms, not the 2380's uniforms.

It looks like a slightly mixed-up alternate timeline at this point:

The uniforms are *similar* to the 2380s uniform, but the double-breasted front makes them appear to be closer in styling to the previous dress uniforms or the AGT / Endgame "future" uniforms. The black undershirt is closer to the 2399 uniform. The stripe on the trousers (most obvious on Raffi) does suggest a dress uniform.

It could be the dress version of the S1 2380s flashback uniforms but then it could deliberately be a "close-but-not-quite" mash-up, creating a slightly different version, from a different timeline, that uses elements of several other uniform designs.

Equally, the use of the "new" 2399-period badge and rank insignia may suggest an intermediate time between the S1 flashbacks and the "now" of S1, if the badges and insignia were introduced first.

Alternatively, it could be post-S1 and this is the dress version of the 2399 uniform (with echoes of the style of the previous uniform), which could suggest a scene back at SFHQ with Picard and Raffi exonerated and re-instated, as was suggested above.

It's impossible to say without context.

(Or the badge and ranks genuinely could be a continuity error...)

Our weapon is the Continuum. The Continuum and surprise. Our TWO weapons are the Continuum, surprise, and ruthless efficiency. Our THREE weapons are the Continuum, surprise, ruthless efficiency, and an almost fanatical devotion to Picard. Ah...amongst our weaponry are such diverse elements as the Continuum, surprise, ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion to Picard, and nice red Starfleet uniforms...I'll come in again.

Picard and Rios are wearing the same badge -- Picard has four bars (possibly gold...), Rios has one bar:

It's definitely not a sword though -- just a notch in the base of the delta with the bars across it.

A lot of people think Q should've shown up in the TNG Movies. But I'm glad he's showing up here instead.

Hmm...I changed my mind. Q will show up at the final episode only. And make Picard an offer he can't refuse. All the displacement we've seen, and Picard's understated reaction at seeing him again suggest he suspected it was Q's shenanigans after all.

Unless it turns out that Q is Carl.

I guess Q took Mariner's advice and decided to bother Picard again after all.

No, it's already been reported that de Lancie has filmed (and hence Q will be in) about 6-7 episodes.

ANALYSIS - may contain SPOILERS so will tag anyway for safety:

I think Picard and Mussiker rejoin Starfleet, only for things ot go topsy-turvy

"What the hell is happening here?"

So clearly whatever changes have happened, Picard is seeing the world around him thinking he's gone abrmy. he goes home in the midst of trying to find answers, when Q turns up (looking fabulous btw with his new jacket and goatee - not to mention that VOICE) - it's extraordinary to think it's been 27 years since we last saw him with Jean-Luc as 20 years ago of course he was on Voyager. oh and the Cerritos!

The End of the road not taken - the end... does that mean they have to work their way back to the beginning? Whe have Picard and Rios got those weird combadges?

It looks like La Sirena crew are fugitives on the run? Bar Soji/Dahj, dressed up nice. Seven seems to know she should have Borg implants.

"We can save the future, and I can get us home together"

So, they've been sent back in time? We know we get modern looking LA, but we know also we get a crooked Starfleet, of sorts. Are we getting Romulans involved?

I wonder if Whoopi has filmed her bit yet?

I appreciate your caution but, honestly, it's all speculation at this point -- and anyone here is already seven pages into a thread discussing the new trailer, so if they're really trying to avoid details on S2 then why on Earth are they still reading this?!

Guinan: This world, this galaxy--it's wrong! It shouldn't be like this!
Q: And who are you to make that decision, hmm?
    Guinan: Q!

The two pick up bat'leths that were conveniently hanging on the wall and begin to duel. A choir of Rios holograms materializes and starts chanting ominously in Latin while Q and Guinan fight.

Oh, I'm not criticising the intent in any way -- but given the rest of the content in the thread, practically every darn post should have a spoiler mask!
