Spoilers "Supergirl": the 6th and final season

Not exactly connected to the show, but Dreamer in the comics

 

She talks about "bringing Dreamer into the comics universe," but does she mean that literally? I had the impression that the Dreamer story in the anthology was set in the Arrowverse continuity, and judging from the pages they showed, they're certainly using the show's costume design and featuring Supergirl in what looks like National City. So I'm not sure that really meets her professed goal of keeping the character around in the DCU after Supergirl ends. Hopefully it'll open the door for more stories about the character.

 

Watching at UK pace, the episode 'Prom Night!' was just on. They went back in time just twelve years but the actress playing young Cat Grant looked up to thirty years younger than present day Cat?

Anyway, it was the best episode of the season by far as Nia and Brainy are the most fun characters (wouldn't mind seeing them in Legends) and the girls playing young Kara and Alex are perfectly cast.

 

National City now exists in the DC Comics universe proper thanks to Supergirl Rebirth.

^ I have to say: I saw that earlier, and couldn't even work up the energy or enthusiasm to post it. It just looks like such a nothingburger -- though it must be admitted, the CW is rarely great at cutting together exciting trailers. Still, I feel like Supergirl is well past its expiration date, which makes me sad because I used to adore the show.

Most promising thing in there is Nyxly, who was a highlight of the earlier episodes this season.

 

I liked the trailer just fine. I'm curious about that space station that appears to be falling out of orbit. And I like it that they're having Kara deal with the emotional trauma of her Phantom Zone experience rather than just having her instantly bounce back.

 

The trailer. Whatever. The old "someone might die" / "this is the worst_______" / "take a chance" plots (and the trailers inspired by them) is that shows of this kind are never going to have the stones to place anyone in real danger, or kill them off. Knowing that this series is all about G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero-type resolutions (in other words, the heroes are never going to meet their end, which makes the "greatest" threat of the week/season uninteresting right out of the gates) gives the audience no reason to believe the second half of the season is anything to look forward to (or suddenly become a quality production).

Sadly true. The only way to reasonably do it is 1) focus on a small group with occasional appearances by other characters or 2) animation.

I wasn't that thrilled with the LoSH animated series from some years back, but I think that was because it seemed dumbed down "for kids". However, having seen Invincible this year, I think a showrunner with chutzpah could do something cool.

 

I don't think LoSH was aimed any younger than some of its excellent predecessors like Batman: TAS, or later shows like Avatar/Korra or She-Ra. There's no reason a kids' show can't be superb. LoSH just wasn't one of the better ones.

For that matter, just being "adult" doesn't automatically make a show good either. All too often, adult content is just a lazy substitute for real substance. The 2000 MTV Spider-Man animated series tried to be "mature" and edgy with lots of violence and death, but its characters and stories were much shallower and less sophisticated than those in the more kid-friendly Spider-Man: TAS of the '90s, which is still regarded as one of the best Spidey series ever.

Ah--with Wood returning, I 'm still sticking to my long-held prediction that Mon-El will encourage Supergirl to resettle in the future, not only putting a final nail in this series' coffin, but writing her out of ever being referred to or appearing on Superman and Lois.

Until sometime down the road if/when the CW decides to do a Superman/legion of superheroes crossover event... (And depending how the production deal turns out which Melissa Benoist signed; they might be able to entice her back to do one or two episodes in that vein)

 

(I'm going to forgo spoiler tags, because we're now in the realm of speculation only.)

I agree it's very possible Kara may join the Legion in the future to conclude her arc in the series (and there's comics precedent for it). They would have to come up with a pretty compelling reason, however, for her to leave people like Lena, J'onn, and especially Alex behind. Those bonds have been deeply and convincingly established throughout the course of the show, and they would have to sell me on the idea that Kara would willingly abandon her beloved family and friends for the 31st century.

 

Probably they ALL go.

Apparently, there was a location shoot of a funeral scene for the finale. So who dies? My guess is Lena, a heroic death (probably to stop Lex) serving as a final affirmation of her overcoming her demons and the villainous Luthor family legacy.

 

For Kara to pick up and move to the future, it'd have to be Alex's funeral.
