^ I really like both designs, but yeah, sucks that they just won't do the real Bonaventure! :(

Did Eaglemoss say they're never doing another run of the Bonaventure? I figured they probably would eventually.

I'll probably just get the standard white passenger pod Eagle, since that was how they appeared 95% of the time.

Some years ago they said TAS ships are not impossible but also not high on their priority list.

With "Lower Decks" and "Prodigy" I hope TAS gets more attention from Eaglemoss. Ideally they should release ships vom TAS, "Lower Decks" and "Prodigy" together in an "Official Animated Starships Collection".

Ooooo it’s been ages since there was a survey.
I miss the times when we had surveys on Trek, BSG and Stargate ships.

“Over the last six months we have made some major changes to the services we provide, from a new warehouse to a new Customer service centre.

I would like to personally invite you to take part in our six month review survey, it will only take a few minutes to complete and the information you provide will have influence on our future plans for customer services.

The survey will be open till the 20th June only.

Click here to participate in the survey.

Thank you for being part of the Eaglemoss Fan Family.

    Kind regards,
    Brett Coles
    Head of Customer Services USA/UK/Europe”

At long last, I got the elusive Karemma ship yesterday. I had to get it off eBay from a seller in the UK. The estimated arrival date was around the end of June (which didn't surprise me, as it took 3 months in the spring of last year, at the height of the lockdown, to import a Romulan BOP from the UK).

To my pleasant surprise, however, this one only took just over a week. I still haven't opened the sealed bag the seller sent the magazine in, as I dread soiling it with my grubby, oily fingers, or subjecting it to folds and creases, like what ends up happened to all my other magazines.

But I'll get to it eventually.

That lends itself to a Klingon conversion

I think the Karemma model was one of the missed opportunities of the collection. Don't get me wrong, it's not all bad and it's actually pretty incredible that they made that in the first place. But I was a littler underwhelmed by the quality of the reproduction. The proportions look off and it just looks too … clean. With some of the models that were based on real filming miniatures they went the route of giving the model a beautiful wash making it look used and dirty. I'm thinking of ships like the Merchantman or the Promellian cruiser. But with the Karemma ship they just left it kinda bland. Which is a shame, because I think it's a really interesting design.

Doing ships that were never designed in 3D would be exceptionally difficult. Frankly, it's extremely hard to reconcile that ship with the rest of canon at this point, anyway.

I'm more bothered by discovering that the pod on the underside is quite lopsided.

That makes sense. In this instance, I’ve seen 3D renditions and even fake Eaglemoss model mock-ups (which I cannot find anymore unfortunately), so the model is “producible”. I’d just overlook the inconsistency with canon.

I think they just used the CG model of the similar Bajoran impulse ship instead of reconstructing the actual Karemma ship.

Actually, his version is inaccurate, as the 'CC' of the 10281NCC registry is actually what he interpreted as the three lights or windows at the front of the upper saucer hump.

I worked with Bob Kline, the designer of the Bonaventure and he said he thought of them as part of an early deflector system, it's wasn't NCC. First that would have been really lopsided with the end if the text only slightly over the center line and second the position would have left no room for the ship's name.

Bob showed us on the blueprint he was working with for the Enterprise on TAS there are 3 similar but much smaller circles and he interpreted that as part of the deflector system and figured an older model might be configured similarly but just really bulky.

I was lucky to work with him as well as get input from Doug Drexler (who looked at the Bonnie during the early development of the NX and then later the NX refit) as well as Rick Sternbach.

I'll take your word for this, although those things on the saucer in the actual screencap of the episode sure look like 'C's' to me (limitations of animation notwithstanding.)

We thought that might be what it was at first too, but you know the person who actually drew it told us what he was thinking…I kinda got take that over my interpretation decades later.
