Speculative: TOS Era Actors who would have worked well on Star Trek

Or while we're thinking of 60's westerns...

Peter Breck, Richard Long, Linda Evans, Barbara Stanwyck, Lee Majors.

Okay.

Some people say tht you learn something new every day, and I try to learn things every day.

Today, May 21, 2021, I was reading alist of credits for Robert Duvall at iMDB.

https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000380/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1

And I found 2 roles in The Outer limits (1963-65). One was as Louis Mace in "The Chameleon",27 April 1964. I thought that I remembered that a main character in "The Chameleon" was named Miles Spain, which I thought was sort of a meaningful name referring to a legendary character, so I looked up the cast list for "The Cameleon" and couldn't find any character named Miles Spain.

So I looked up a list of The Outer limits episodes and found another episode, "The Invisibles", 3 February 1964, with a description indicating that it was the one I remembered. And I looked up the cast list of "The Invisibles" and there wasn't any "Miles Spain" charater listed.

Instead the main character was Luis D. Spain (Don Gordon).

So sometime, decades ago, I got the false idea that the main character of "The Invisibles" was named Miles Spain as some sort of reference to the legendary ancestor of Irish Royal families Mil Espaine.

For some reason I thought I read that he died some years ago, but it looks like he's still alive.

He appared as an Earth Senator in a few episodes of Babylon 5.

And I think I remember that he was in a show like The People's Court as himself in some dispute.

You have experienced what some call "The Mandela Effect."

Are you sure you're in the right Universe? ;)

Lol.

NCC-1701, see
Or while we're at it, Dan Blocker, Pernell Roberts, or Michael Landon.
Roberts could be just about any Klingon. Kang would be a good fit.
Blocker's a hard one. Not too many Hoss types in Star Trek. And most characters his size are bit players. He might make and interesting Cyrano Jones or maybe Ben Childress. .
Landon I could see as Riley or Garrovick.

You know, maybe there should be a thread about TOS era stars in Trek roles that we definitely were never going to see.

Well, instead of starting a thread, I'll just tack it onto this one.

I'm pretty sure we were never going to see Lucille Ball guest starring as a Starfleet admiral.

Robert

I'd like to see more actors mentioned who had an alien type feel. Some of the actors that they used on the series that really gave a feeling of "alienness" were actors like Ted Cassidy, Joseph Ruskin, Reggie Nalder, William O'Connell, Bart Larue -- actors with unique looks and distinctive voices really added a lot to the series. I think a lot of the actors being mentioned who came from westerns and cop shows wouldn't have actually seemed right for Star Trek to me. At this point people are just naming pretty much any actor who ever worked in the 1960s.

From William Shatner's wikipedia article:

young Shatner the Stratford Festival's most promising actor, and he was seen as a peer to contemporaries like Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, and Robert Redford. Shatner was not as successful as the others, but during the 1960s he "became a working actor who showed up on time, knew his lines, worked cheap and always answered his phone."

The answer is clear. Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, and Robert Redford all should have shown up on TOS, as rivals to Kirk.
