    Oops, missed this one. :o

Janeway would NOT have brigged him for the rest of the trip. Tom's actions in "Thirty Days" were way worse, and all he got was a reduction in rank and a 30-day lockup. But, it's ridiculous that Harry behaved that way period. I could see Tom, with his disdain for rules, protesting in this manner, or a hothead like B'Elanna... but Harry's not like that. And that's why I consider "Resolutions" to be a character assassination episode.

It has been remarked that maybe Harry's actions in this episode rated a severe enough black mark to explain his seven year ensignhood. However, Tom did worse, and he was restored to lieutenant rank a year later. And while Harry merely advocated disobeying Janeway's orders, Tuvok actually DISOBEYED SAID ORDERS, and he made LCDR a year later. This episode might have explained why Harry was a one-pip special in S3, but he should have been a JG by the time Seven replaced Kes.

QUOTE: But that's Voyager for you. Making sense is the last thing on their minds.

    Ain't that the frickin' truth!

New theory: Harry WOULD have gotten a silver pip in S3, but the entire supply had to be melted down to make Seven's catsuits.

I know it was meant humorously, but YES, I can refute that one too. Rank pips were either gold or gold with a black center.

I never liked Harry and I never will, I could never forgive him for the death of my joy...

With replicator rations in place, all non-essential material was requisitioned for use by Joe Carey's shuttlecraft and torpedo manufacturing team.

    :shrug:Uh.... Ok, whatever.

Then why didn't Janeway simply bust everyone down to ensign?

Then they would all be equal rank with Harry, and that would just be too cruel. She tried doing it to Tom once, but didn't have the heart to keep him in such a pitiful state.

Given that a shuttlecraft is almost the size of a school bus, I really think Janeway could have scrounged up a few cubic millimeters of brass and black enamel to give Harry an extra rank pip.

Ever noticed that Harry gives orders to Lieutenants?

No. But if he did, it's all the more reason why he should have been one himself.

He's done at least once in season 1, in "TWISTED" when he has Baxter go to his duty station.

(It was produced in season 1, so I count it as such.)

If I was, he should have fired me long ago.

Yes, that was odd. Like in "Insurrection" when a Lieutenant orders Data to stand down. I don't care if he's malfunctioning, he still outranks her!!!

One wonders why that guy (or Carey or Ayala or Durst when he was alive) isn't at senior staff meetings instead of Harry.

I could be wrong but I think it's because he's a bridge officer. When Sisko summons the senior staff, Nog is one f them even though he's only a cadet.

We don't see B'Elanna on the bridge, but we do see Ayala.

True, I don't remember a single instance of B'elanna being on the bridge. Maybe Janeway was afraid that she'd eventually break someone's nose for giving her an order she didn't want to follow.

    Another story arc that wasn't.

Question #1: A Maquis member of your crew decks a superior officer. Do you:
    A. Confine her the brig.
    B. Relieve her of dury.
    C. Allow her to continue as assistant, but on a VERY short leash.
    D. Promote her to chief engineer.

Hmmm... maybe Harry should have socked someone.

Oddly, the first example I can think of where she is -- other than the final scene in Caretaker which doesn't really count -- is in Future's End when Harry is in command of the bridge.
