Heh, "contrived coincidences" is the hallmark of all Trek movies. And that, as in the traditional kelvinverse style, much of the plot is based on contrived coincidences.

It was and that was quite a nice feeling in itself, as was seeing the cast promoting it across all the media. After most of the TNG movies sashayed in discreetly only to slink away shortly after, seeing Trek everywhere was like your team winning the cup or something. It was a very positive time to be into Trek.I remember it was in theaters for months and months
Well, I've always been proud to be a Trekkie but it was nice to be proud without people laughing at you because of itYeah, for the first time you could kinda be proud to be a trekkie XD
yes definitely had that feel at the time and also continued for ID . before then the only movie that really had that same breakout feel was FC and TVH (although that was more of a comedy)..the rest were all sort of 'for the fans only' (id even include TMP and TWOK in that category really)It was and that was quite a nice feeling in itself, as was seeing the cast promoting it across all the media. I have been reading discussion and rehash and re-rehash of both for years, at this point, and you get no fight from me. Is Spock KHAAAN my favorite Trek thing ever? Not really, no, but I don't have any problems with it, either. Nor do I accept it as being the Most Cringe-worthy Moment in Trek History. Honestly, it's not even close.... (and I still maintain Spock's "KHHAAANNN", within story context, is more relevant than the original shout from Kirk--fight me if you disagree).
The Kirk KHAAAN moment may have been nothing less than the single greatest example of Untrammeled Shatner Ham ever to be recorded on film.
Yup. An entire feature film's-worth, concentrated into a maximum-strength dose lasting < 3 seconds.Guess he had him let it all out in one moment.![]()
Peak Shatner was achieved. One can but stand in awe.But we still love him for it.
Yes: in TOS there was no indication this could have ever been a thing. It’s obvious they did it to give Zoe Saldana something more to do, but it really came out of the blue and, for me, didn’t work with where Spock was supposed to be in his life.
They could have used Chapel in a similar way, somehow, but I don’t think that would have worked either.
At that point, Spock is supposed to be engaged with T’Pring and it isn’t even public knowledge that he’s half human (Kirk thinks he has “a human ancestor”), why would he have a human girlfriend?
