Spoilers Interesting Comments by Gates McFadden about Appearing in Picard

The Borg are of the Voyager type and not the TNG one. Plus other things that I might discover if I went through the episodes with a fine-tooth comb.
The Borg are not of the Voyager type, they're actually completely different because they're being "de-Borged". Also, the only flashbacks we get of the Borg are to TNG.

Q is coming too and Q was seen several times on Voyager. It would be interesting to see if Picard's Q will be more of a TNG one or a Voyager one...Well, we'll see.

Q is going to be completely different from both, according to JdL. But anyway, Picard is a continuation of TNG, because of no other reason than Picard was not a character on Voyager. Please.

I just listened to Gates McFadden's interview and first off, wow, I'm excited for her podcast. In all honesty, I've never really heard Gates' talk for extended periods of time and she is a lot of fun to listen to.

Based on what she said about Picard, it does sound like she was approached but forever reason, nothing came of it and given that season three is going to be shot right after season two, it sounds like she hasn't been approached for season 3 either.

I think I got a few allusions

So? Seven might become a regular and she was on Voyager, plus there's the indication she might be into women which is neither a TNG nor a Voyager thing but more like a Disco one... I think we got a few direct allusions to Disco.... even if I can't remember them right now...

I'm surprised Patrick didn't push for Gates to appear although maybe he didn't want to look like having a conflict of interest in overriding writers just to have his friend appear.

Patrick has been fairly adamant about not wanting to bring back TNG characters simply for the sake of bringing them back. I also get the sense that Patrick is maybe not as interested in the Crusher/Picard story as fans are.

I don't know. Personally, I am not thrilled by her acting abilities.

Gates is a good actress, although I think she's better on stage than on screen. I think she was often left to do the best with the little material she was given on TNG.

The Doctor in the first season checking on Picard would have been a good opportunity, but they didn't. What that says to me is that they might want to do something with the actress and character in the future, but it'll be something more than an appearance. Personally, I wouldn't be against at least one or two cameos which are just passing rather than extended - the doctor checking up on Picard would have been perfect for this, as it indicates they are still friends and in contact. It seems Picard lost touch with pretty much everyone after leaving Starfleet.

I dunno but I still have a sneaky feeling that they will reveal Crusher died sometime in between Nemesis and Picard S1.

With any appearance she might make being in flashback form.

To me, not using Crusher here made story sense. Picard states he doesn't want to get any of the old Enterprise gang involved. If he had called Beverly, there is no way she would have let him go out into space ill, let alone on his own.

I think if Beverly were dead it would've been revealed in the first season. Given that the whole theme of the season was about loss (mourning Data, Troi and Riker's son, Dahj) they would have included Beverly's demise. Michael Chabon also confirmed in his many IG answers that Beverly is fine. I think it's more likely we'll find out that Picard/Crusher maybe got together after Nemesis but it didn't work out like we saw in All Good Things.

You would think, that when Beverly learns about what has happened to Picard, she would take her earliest opportunity to travel and visit him. Now all of Season 1 of Picard took place over a few days, and it is possible Dr Crusher is on a Humanitarian assignment.

Depending on the length of time covered in Seasons 2 and 3 - they could film a conversation over a comms channel, or a small appearance for Season 3.

I don't see it as a continuation of Voyager. Seven's a supplementary character, a bonus, Easter egg etc. Imagine a Kirk series (starring Shatner natch) but Bones never appears. Nor does Sulu. Or Chekhov.

Shatner would have loved it.

If you don't mind me asking, what's your avatar about? As a fellow Bowie fan (judging by your sig and avatar) I recognise the basis of the image, but I'm nit sure if it's something you've 'shopped or if it's something else entirely?

I can't claim credit for the image, I stumbled across it a long time ago on a website far, far away. It was a collection of Star Wars inspired album covers and this was my favourite (even though I prefer Low).
The other one I liked was this one, but I'm not a Prince fan..

Now I look at it I can't believe I didn't recognise Ford. Thanks for the info and thanks for the Lando smile.

I like Low. But out of the Berlin lot I like Lodger best. :D

Yeah I agree with this! Beverly would have gotten involved and wouldn't have Picard to go off on his own.

It would have been kind of fun if they had used Dr. Pulaski for this scene. But Diana Muldaur is apparently retired from acting and I think it's kind of an open secret that she and Patrick Stewart didn't get along well.

This is disappointing to read. It doesn't make sense doing a Picard series without Crusher. If any of the TNG cast should have something in this series, you'd think it would be Crusher, his probable wife/ex. Her over Data even. Certainly over Riker and Troi. And if you're going to do Data, you have to include his best friend in the world Geordi. After those two it's the rest of the characters.

...harumph. I'm just disappointed. It would have been great to see these people. I mean, Stewart isn't going to be able to go at this much longer, I don't think, thought I'd love to be wrong. And it would have been nice to see them all given what a great job they did with "Nepenthe." Troi especially shined. Riker probably didn't need to be in the season finale, but it was nice to see him.

Shatner would have loved it.
Despite Shatner's reputation as a stage hoarder, he did advise against Sulu's promotion to captain earlier in the movie series specifically because George Takei would then be off the Enterprise, where all the action is, and get less screentime. George apparently didn't see it that way and thought Shatner was trying to stunt the growth of his character; however I do see Shatner's view that at the time only TOS movies about the Enterprise were being made and making Sulu captain would indeed lessen George's screentime. I'm not sure if this reputation of Shatner trying to steal his costars' screentime is really deserved in light of stories like this.
