Justice League official "Zack Snyder" cut on HBO Max

It’s not that hard to explain. Darkseid takes over the Earth and Batman leads a resistance force. You see it in BvS as well.
Yes but it really has nothing to do with the story that was told on screen. In fact even though I liked the Martian Manhunter bit, It too was extraneous to the film's story overall; and with a running time of 4 hours... Please.

It was just a little scene he added to have Batman and Joker in a scene together. Just something extra for the fans.
You have to think of this movie as a extended cut. It would have been shorter if it was going to be a cinema movie.

Exactly that.
If Snyder would have been able to finish his movie back then, it wouldn't have been this 4 hour piece. Mostly likely something nearly or exactly 3 hours. He basically figured, fuck it, I'm going all out now that I can and created this 4 hour version.

Looks like the up to buy in the UK digital market. £13.99 for the UHD version on Google Play.

I did not like Man Of Steel much when I watched it in 2013 (apart from Russell Crow flying about on a dragon, that was fun.)

Never watched Batman V Superman after the hugely negative reactions.

Watched this because a friend highly recommended it, did not think I'd like it much. But I loved it? Best comic book movie I've seen in years. I did not feel bored at all in the four hours and the action just looked so good, especially compared to the typical MCU fare (which I do enjoy but doesn't always look spectacular.) And I loved Steppenwolf and his ridiculous armour and habit of throwing horses around. That's my idea of fun.

Was not into the final two epilogue scenes, have no interest in watching Jared Leto pull stuff out of his mouth again, but otherwise nine and a half thumbs up.

Definitely going to rewatch Man of Steel now and give BVS: Ultimate Edition a chance before watching this again.

The negative reactions from BvS came from how disjointed the story felt which was vastly fixed in the Ultimate Edition.
While the Ultimate Edition was a considerable improvement, the editing of the theatrical version was hardly the only reason for the negative reactions.

That is not to say CaptainWacky won't dig the film, but most of what critics and viewers complained about is common to both cuts.

I think he said he was going for 2:30... Normal "big" movie length these days.

They probably complained that there wasn’t enough jokes in it. :)

To name just a couple of items, Superman's portrayal (as continued from Man of Steel) has been an unending point of criticism and contention. And the "Martha" bit has been a go-to source of mockery for the entire Internet for years now.

Of course, you may not agree with those complaints (I don't really have a beef with the Martha thing myself), but they don't have a blessed thing to do with the theatrical editing choices one way or another.

Never understood the complaints about Superman. You try and be always happy in that situation. It’s ridiculous.
I think some people think that Superman is still like the Silver Age version but he has evolved a lot since then.

If I made it I would have added one big Superman rescue and give a reason why Lex wants Bruce gone. That’s what I think it was missing

That's a debate I've forsworn, and in any case it's beside the point. The point is that it's misleading and inaccurate to attribute the film's negative reception to the theatrical editing.

Yes, it is ridiculous, and this is a complaint from a noisy minority who has made it quite clear that they are wholly ignorant of the comics' history to insist that the George Reeves version, Donner version, the Super Friends or the comics of Weisinger/Plastino/Swan (that forced DC to make a shift from the idiotic--which readers wanted) is the real version of the character. Man of Steel and each of his appearances in Snyder's films were as close to how Superman should act/react in films that are fantasy mirrors of reality as anyone can get.

The infantile, Pollyanna versions of the character are something no one has a desire to see on screen (hence the rejection of would-be Donner sequel Superman Returns), so when you hear anyone whine incessantly about the Snyder version, know that it comes from a place where the easily researched history of the character plainly shows Superman certainly did not start out as some Daddy/camp counselor and DC has made great efforts to move him away from the Weisinger/Plastino.Swan aberrations.

Thankfully, that is nowhere near the movies.

Finally sat down and watched it. Overall I do like that Darkseid was put back into the story; but overall yes it was too long and Snyder really needs to learn editing down scenes isn't necessarily a bad thing...
Also I am sorry but the idea that Darkseid couldn't recall that the one planet he left the anti-life equation inscribed on was the one planet that sent himself and his troops packing back to Apokolips 5,000 years earlier (not to mention the fact that he was nearly mortally wounded in the fight) was ridiculous as well. Given Darkseid's ego I don't think Earth is a planet he would soon forget.
Well, i can only imagine what my memory would be like if I was 5000 years old.

I can't even remember who was the last person I slept with, much less what I made her for breakfast. It probably had something to do with bacon.

Having read over the differences between the theatrical cut and the "Ultimate Edition," I can say quite confidently that the "Ultimate Edition" does not fix any of the really important flaws in Batman v Superman, and that I am absolutely not willing to spend 30 more minutes in that awful slog of a film.

Speaking of an awful slog of a movie, I got through the next hour of the Snyder cut of Justice League and did not get around to posting my reactions (live-typed as I watched):

PART 3: BELOVED MOTHER, BELOVED SON

  • I cannot see Iris’s face when Barry bumps into her because the lighting is too low
  • The truck driver is absurdly irresponsible with his sandwich to the point of feeling cartoonish
  • The closeup of the sandwich bun seed falling was too much
  • The superspeed sequence works though, way more than Snyder’s usual slow-mo bullshit does
    • Except for him STOPPING AND STARING AT HER JUST BECAUSE SHE’S PRETTY
  • Barry’s meat-snack joke for the dogs works
  • Overall I did really like the Barry Allen car crash scene except for the staring-at-Iris bit
  • The parademons pull an Atlantean out of the water and throw him at Steppenwolf and hahahahahaha I just cannot take Steppenwolf seriously as a villain with all those pointy barbs on his costume
    • Again, it’s like Snyder expects me to take a live-action Rob Liefeld character seriously
  • Shots of Lois being sad about Clark with no dialogue
  • Diana and Clark seem to be flirting a bit as they look at the sequel trailers Diana saw in BvS. Interesting contrast to the 2017 cut, where only Bruce appeared interested and Diana did not appear to flirt back.
  • The color palette finally changes a bit as Victor looks over the neighborhood kids playing and then flashes back to his football game. Some oranges and yellows are finally present. It’s still this ugly muted palette but there’s some variation at least
  • Football scene. So. Much. Slow. Mo. I took a two-week break from this thing and I’m still sick and tired of how much slow-mo Snyder uses
  • Ray Fisher is just a tad bit too old for me to buy him as a high school student, but
  • JESUS ANOTHER CAR CRASH?
  • Gratuitous friging of Victor’s mother to provide him and his dad motivation :(
  • The Cyborg-testing-his-powers scene is a little over-the-top and reminds me of the Dean-playing-with-VR episode of Community. It’s not awful but it’s self-indulgent
  • He’s cyber-stalking a woman named Linda Reed and… that is not how eviction works
  • But him as Cyber-Robin Hood is awesome
  • As with the 2017 cut, the entire Barry visiting his father in prison scene looks like it’s lifted from the CW series
  • This bit where the dad tells his son to stop coming to see him reminds me a lot of Jonathan telling Clark to let him die. Fathers emotionally abusing their sons by trying to force the sons to sacrifice them in the name of their own good seems like a recurring Snyder theme
  • Bruce meeting Barry scene is extremely similar to the 2017 cut, but the muted color palette and the new score gives it a more melancholy mood
  • Bruce throws the batarang and that short event takes about two or three times longer than the 2017 cut because Snyder has no self-restraint with the slow-mo
  • The 2017 version of this scene was funnier
  • “What are your special powers again?” “I’m rich.” The cut is much faster
  • Then Snyder indulges in some Michael Bay-esque car fetishism
  • I like seeing Diana and Alfred interact but Snyder definitely uses this as an excuse to prominently frame Gal Gadot’s cleavage in the shot
  • Seriously, why does Diana dress like this in the movies Snyder and Whedon direct but not in Patty Jenkins’s movies?
  • Diana meeting Victor: What I had previously assumed was Whedon taking the opportunity to do an ass shot on Gadot turns out to have been Snyder footage
  • Victor going “fuck the world” reads to me like Snyder trying a little too hard to set Cyborg aside from his Teen Titans cartoon counterpart
  • Once again, the dark lighting and muted color palette obscure a black actor’s face, especially with the light from his artificial eye
  • Victor burying the Motherbox in his own fake grave is an intense choice but I’m not sure what I think of it beyond that
  • The Parademon kidnapping Victor’s dad is freakier than in the 2017 cut
  • As with 2017, the Parademons bring Dr. Stone to Steppenwolf. I swear to God if Dr. Stone kills himself to save Victor in this one.
  • Diana meets up with Barry and Bruce at the plane. Nearly identical to 2017. Then cut to the Motherbox being weird in Atlantis. A slower and more ominous tone in this bit. The ocean is darker and harder to see through
  • More sexually objectifying clothing choices from Snyder re: Mera and her aqua-cleavage
  • In my notes on the 2017 version, I often wasn’t sure who was responsible for some of the more sexually-objectifying costume choices and shot compositions, but it seems pretty clear now that Snyder is, at best, no less sexually objectifying than Whedon was
  • Steppenwolf having yet another Zoom meeting with middle managers on Apocalypse does not actually add anything to the narrative

Part 4 “Change Machine”

  • This was a really awkward act break, sorry
  • Why is there a frayed plastic tarp next to the Bat Signal?
  • The shot revealing Batman at the rooftop wants to be cooler than it is
  • So, on the one hand, the Batsuit definitely wasn’t designed for the brighter lighting Whedon used in 2017, and it looked much faker under that lighting/color correction. It looks a lot better in Snyder’s lighting, but it is, once again entirely too goddamn dark in this movie
  • The rest of the scene mostly plays out like before
  • Dramatic close-up of rats on an abandoned metro line, then rock music plays as Batman jumps down into frame. Eh. It’s a little too on-brand,, a little too try-hard, but whatever
  • Jesus Christ did Snyder really just give us an upskirt shot of Gal Gadot’s bare ass?
  • Weird to see the mind probes added to the Steppenwolf interrogation scene
  • I do have to give it to Snyder, Victor’s arc vis a vis his dad is stronger here than in the 2017 cut
  • It’s also awesome to see Wonder Woman kick ass
  • No mention of Barry’s PTSD or Batman’s “save just one” order. Bummer. I didn’t think that bit was fully developed but I had hoped to see it developed more in this cut
  • No Barry-falling-into-Diana’s boobs. I wasn’t happy with the ass shot but I’ll give Snyder credit for not using that awful gag again I guess.
  • The bit where Barry saves all the scientists from falling debris was good, and Victor being a leader was cool
  • Aaaaand Batman is just straight up using a machine gun. Meh. I know Snyder doesn’t really agree with the idea that Batman would reject firearms or killing people but I still don’t like it. I’m not even saying it’s wrong per se in THIS scene, but it’s an aspect of the character that I just don’t like in general even if it’s appropriate in some specific contexts
  • Not a fan of the weird metal face mask Victor uses as Cyborg sometimes
  • Okay, the setup on Aquaman coming to save them works better if the Gotham Harbor tunnel fight happens right after Mera tells Arthur it’s his job to represent Atlantis in defeating Steppenwolf
  • The close-up on Steppenwolf’s hand in his vision of the empty ground looks more real than any other shot of him in the movie
  • That sequence still adds nothing to the movie
  • Okay, so Dr. Stone does not sacrifice himself to save Victor. Thank Christ.
  • Wait, so why did Victor bury the Motherbox if he just took it out to bring it to the team?
  • Yet ANOTHER Zoom call. But apparently it’s to explain why Steppenwolf’s vision was there a minute ago. It’s to further complicate the plot: the Anti-Life Equation is carved into the surface of Earth. Because that’s just what a team-up movie with this man characters needs: A more-complicated plot
  • Seeing Darkseid here might be more cool, except that the first time we saw him he got his ass kicked
  • The Darkseid CGI model’s movement feels less organic and faker than Steppenwolf’s
  • Also -- is Steppenwolf kneeling naked before his dom boss??

Okay, taking a break from the interminable thing again.

I can't remember where I read it, and I'm probably wrong with the number - I think somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-15 minutes of footage is slow-motion.

And did we really need to see a sesame seed fall off a burger bun in Slo-Mo during the Flash saves Iris from speeding truck sequence? Yet another instance where editing and execution could have been a little tighter, with NO detriment to the sequence of the audience watching.

Apparently the exact duration of slo-mo footage is twenty-four minutes and seven seconds! Slightly over ten percent of the film is in slow motion. For the love of Zod.
