Actually, a chef's knife hurts far more. A scalpel blade is so sharp that the cut doesn't hurt much. You might be able to cheat by saving the apps to an SD card on the old phone, transfer the files onto a PC and from there feed them into the new phone's internal memory by usb-cable. (or maybe even directly between old and new phone by bluetooth) frustration today: in 2 hours my last psychotherapy session starts. I'll miss my therapist and I am not sure I can manage without her already.

You can't not be on some level for profit and also have efficiency and innovation. The best solution is a balance between being able to profit and ensuring universal fair access.
Sure universal health care is technically not free it's paid for via taxes but in the case of the US for profit system Medical care is often provided for via a benefit at work. I would assume the employer pays the insurance company some re-numeration for that. Instead of paying that to the Insurance company would it not be better to pay that to the employee who then pays a higher tax rate to get universal healthcare the only question is would the employee be better off, worse off or no different?
I know the difference between the NHS and other heath care systems and how the healthcare in America relys on insurance but I've never understood the actual difference and the episode of Scrubs and the elective procedure makes it unclear. Scenario: I'm a British tourist wandering around New York when I collapse with a heart attack. I have ID but no insurance documents on me. Would I be given life saving treatment and if I survive I'm given a bill or is ER treatment based on insurance?
No. Under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act of 1986, emergency rooms cannot turn people away based on insurance status. They absolutely must treat anyone who comes to the ER, without question.
I'll preface this by saying that people should not be denied emergency care if they need. But one of the problems with insurance we often have to pay higher premiums say for car insurance to cover those that don't have insurance. I would rather that money be in my pocket than my insurers.
I know I’m old now. I hate the neighbor kids. College-age daughter of my next door neighbor is turning their place into a party house. This is why I am awake at 3 AM. Because the sound from their basement stereo travels through the ground and up my wall into my bedroom. Can’t hear it outside, but inside I can hear every thrum of the bass. Party broke up at 2 AM, followed by revving engines and blaring car stereos as they said their goodbyes, then she went back inside and turned the stereo on AGAIN. I need to maintain a sleep schedule for work, I’m too old for this kind of crap. Gonna have to see mom or write a letter: “You have inadequate soundproofing. Please fix this before your next party. Sincerely, the Monster Next Door.”
I do, too. In my country the flip side of that coin is, that if the GP doesn't think you need to see a specialist, you don't get to see a specialist. (Though of course you can ask for a 2nd opinion with a different GP). The general idea being that since healthcare should be available to everyone but there is only a limited capacity of specialists, it's up to the first line (GP) to decide who gets to see them and who doesn't. Generally, the system works well, but there have been stories of GP's trivializing the complaints of their patients till it turned out their condition was really serious, even though such cases are, of course, rare.
The way I see it, the government deciding what care you get and a for profit insurance company deciding what care you get are equally bad. Imagine in the US if we had a government run health care system under an Evangelical president. Who would and would not be allowed to receive care.
I was watering my plants. One of those flexible expanding hoses. I stopped to look at something and I felt something brush my arm. I looked down at my hand and there it was.... a large ever-widening water balloon between the nozzle and the rest of the hose. Before I could react......BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!! It exploded all over me. Water and pieces of hose everywhere. I don't know how or why it happened...just boom.
Oh dear! But at least you didn't get hurt . Don't hoses in the US have reinforcements? The ones you get in Germany have a tight network of glass fibers woven around them to prevent just such accidents. I have no prob with talking about problems publicly, but thanks for being so considerate Over here, with a normal therapy, you get 2 rounds of sessions payed for by the health insurance and if the psychiatrist states it's necessary can continue in all eternity. This online therapy I had is a pilot project to test if it works at all. There the insurance pays only for a maximum of 2 rounds of sessions and after the second I'd have to take a 12 month break before I can apply for te next series of sessions either on- or offline. By restricting ourselves to 1 round, my therapist and I left me the option to instantly continue with a classical therapy without having to wait a year if I find I can't cope with my anxiety after all. So far it looks rather promising, though. And I found a support-group in my vicinity which atm meets only online and I joined a rather nice anxiety BBS So I have my mental parachute ready Argh of the day: I just learned that on Wednesday I'm supposed to check on some future sampling sites with a colleague from the government. Last year we managed to do 2 sites within 12 hours. This year he believes, we can do 2 sites in one afternoon. As I have to check on a wastewater treatment facility in the morning I reckon it'll become a 14-16 hour day for me And of course the forecast predicts steady rain. Silverline: I can do with a few hours overtime: I am at -8 hours atm.
It's made like one of these: I don't know if it was reinforced with anything but it's been working well for a year and a half.
People that don't have the common courtesy to ask for things politely. I work in a restaurant, and over the weekend I had all sorts of people either bark "RANCH!!!" at me if they wanted some more ranch dressing or "BREAD!!!!!!!" at me if they wanted more bread. Instead of, you know, being civilized humans and saying, "Hey, do you mind getting us some more bread?" or, "Could you please grab us some more ranch dressing? the six ramekins you gave me just ISN'T enough for this side salad."
