Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

The next entry in the Star Trek Online series of starship models is the A.F.S. Khitomer Battlecruiser (CSN-01), the first hybrid starship of combined Federation-Klingon Allied Fleet Service — including a Klingon-style secondary hull and Federation-style saucer section.

Romulan Republic getting third wheel status in the Alliance again, I see. Be interesting to see what they'll put if they get round to releasing the Temer Raider...

And I revise my above statement about the Aelahl. It's still the best-looking new Rommie ship in STO, but I am now quite fond of the Arkif Tactical Warbird. And THAT's got a 16 Turn Rate.

That Khitimor class ship is in the words of PC Butterman, fuck ugly.
Agreed. The result of trying to cobble together a hybrid design using Federation & Klingon visual queues. The Romulan Temer-class is a Fed/Rom hybrid in the same vein. Both are supposed to be Alliance-built, and more symbolic of the unity between the various factions in the game.

One would hope that, despite its looks, the Khitomer would be a relatively decent ship to fly, but sadly it isn't. It's slow and has a bit of a glass jaw. The Temer is much faster, on part with the Risa corvettes that you can get in the Summer events, and a tiny bit more powerful, but I much prefer my old Universe-class battlewagon. She'll take a direct hit from a Doomsday planet killer and still keep on ticking.

I just hope the STO line lasts long enough for them to get around to not just the Temer, but the Nandi and the Ross classes as well.

On another note, does anyone know if Eaglemoss still has the license for the Kelvin timeline films? I keep hoping that they may eventually do the 1701-A from the end of Beyond, since that's such an improvement over the original Abramsprise. And I would love to see a Starbase Yorktown.

I believe they held off on the Kelvin A because they wanted to wait and see what happened with the film series. And now there are rumbles of more films so who knows what will happen.

A shame - albeit I don't care much about the E-A - I wanted to see models made of all the background ships (Mayflower et alles) that were seen in the first movie and floating around during the refit at the end of STB. Sadly, I doubt we'll ever see them now. :(

Supposedly ILM lost the models (hence extremely inaccurate ones like the Kobayashi Maru, based on an early concept model before it was turned over to ILM). I've wanted a Newton for 11 years now.

Tobias Richter has some amazing, albeit imperfect, CG models they could use.

So sad that ILM lost them. That seems to happen way to frequently in that industry. Doug Drexler appears to have been the only one to have made backups of his work.
He did lose some of his backups though unfortunately. Stuff like his early NX Enterprise concepts.
But it does surprise me how movies that cost millions could just lose stuff. Maybe some of it was taken home like those Babylon 5 FX shots that ended up on youtube.

I’ve never really cared for the look of any of the STO ships.

Many are godawful, but there's some hidden gems. I love the Exeter-Class reskin of the Connie - especially if you give it the Sovereign-type nacelles of the Excalibur (which IS horrible otherwise). The Guardian-Class is a fine homage to the Ambassador. And the Reliant 25th Century makeover of the Miranda. But yeah, most Fed designs are butt-ugly once they try something not based on stuff we've seen on screen.

Ships NOT based on original TV/movie classes... well, the Romulan Aelahl and Arkif I've mentioned. I also like the new Explorer warbirds (they combine Rommie designs with a ring-style warp drive like the Vulcan ships in Enterprise). Some of the new Cardassian and Jem'Hadar vessels are pretty cool too.

The refit Enterprise, however, has an abomination of a primary hull and should definitely be redone.
It still boggles my mind they did that intermediate version that existed for all of maybe two months in 1979. I have no interest in it as a 1701-A, but would if they released it as a 1701.

I think they'd be safe doing a "Beyond 1701-A", even if they do a fourth Kelvinverse film, there is about a zero percent chance they keep the model as it appeared at the end of Beyond.

I would bet it's less "lost" but more "not paid to keep".
