Yeah, I mean I know there are sports fans, but they're not the only fans of the show out there. I just wish they'd try a little harder to diversify their portfolio of guest hosts. I feel they're not doing a great job of getting me interested in the show. It should really be a slam dunk given the popularity and momentum Alex gave the show, but every new guest-host so far has felt further from the ideal host.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, Aaron Rodgers was a previous Celebrity Jeopardy! winner, so there's at least a prior connection there. I have no idea what the hell they think Joe Buck brings to the table.

At least the former has a brain, and has won Celebrity Jeopardy.

Who do you think it is? I'm curious.

No idea. It's more idle speculation than anything else, based on how executives in general look at productions.

Even if that's the case, I feel they're narrowing their demo via the hosts that they're currently trying out. Especially given that Jeopardy has always had such a varied number of categories. It's not Sports Jeopardy for crying out loud.

If there had been an over-abundance of sports categories during Rodgers' two-week hosting stint, I might agree with you, but there wasn't. In the whole two weeks, there were two sports-related categories: "Baseball Managers" on 4/5/17, and "Title Waves" on 4/13. Bzzzt, try again.

edit to add: And this is the second post now where you've complained about the number of sports-related figures guest-hosting. Until Joe Buck started swirling in the news — and there's nothing official from the show about that, just a story in the New York Post that everyone keeps regurgitating — there had been one sports-related guest host, Aaron Rodgers. If anything, the guest hosts are skewed towards the world of journalism (Katie Couric, Anderson Cooper, Bill Whitaker, Savannah Guthrie), not sports.

And that is exactly how Star Trek: Strange New Worlds came about.

Yeah, I guess because I'm somewhat frustrated with the direction this is going. I'm allowed to vent. The parade of guest-hosts have been underwhelming to date, IMHO.

And yeah, I get that they wouldn't be his sport, as that would be futile. I'm just referring to the hosting personalities for who they are and the kind of demo they're attracting. It just seems weird to me when they'd have better candidates in the offing. *shrug*

The job takes a certain kind of personality. Winning Celebrity Jeopardy doesn't mean Rodgers has any personality at all. Joe Buck sure as hell doesn't have any. I mute Fox NFL games just so I don't have to hear him and Aikman jabbering.

Romo would be better than either of those two, and Romo doesn't really have the "it" factor.

LeVar has it, I think Anderson Cooper would be interesting.

Anderson Cooper did really well tonight; I definitely could see him getting the job.

Does Anderson Cooper really have the time to host it full time? He's already doing at least two other shows, his main CNN show and 60 Minutes, plus any other side reporting projects. I like him a lot (I haven't seen any of his hosting) but I just don't see that happening.

How often is he on 60 Minutes, though? And I'm sure they could work the taping schedule to align with his CNN schedule; before Alex got sick, they'd tape five shows a day, and do two days of taping every other week. Presumably he could host 360 from CNN's studios in LA on the days he's out on the West Coast taping Jeopardy.

Maybe every few months? I haven't watched it regularly in years. That said, each story takes a long time to research, interview, and record (granted he doesn't do all of that).

I agree, I can't see Anderson Cooper taking the Jeopardy job.

Yeah, Anderson Cooper was quite good. Though as noted, he's a very busy guy. I guess they could always ask him to fill in if the host is indisposed, so I guess a good reason for trying all of these people out is to have some in reserve.

Another that'd probably be worth trying out, which I think was already mentioned in this thread would be Neil Degrasse Tyson. But he's very busy as well.

I googled him: couldn't find the reason we hate him. I'm certainly not a sports guy, but did he actually do anything objectionable. Google just came up with a sportscaster with a sports loving wife and podcast, but I didn't dig deeper for any details and none were obvious.

I'll let @The Nth Doctor and @Timby explain; they're bigger sports fans than I am. But I have yet to find a single person online or in real life who likes Buck's work as a sportscaster.

For me it's about "screen presence", or lack thereof. No real personality, no real sports knowledge. I honestly think he only has a job in sports announcing because of his last name.

You'd really have to listen to him call a baseball or football game to get the full picture. I'd say 95% of the posters in NFL chat actively dislike him.

Ok, so it's not like Doctor "I'm a horrible person and huckster" Oz.
