It's frustrating to see them resort to stunt-casting and have guests that are so demographic specific. Have no clue who he is, other than the fact that he's a football player, and it's not making me want to watch Jeopardy.
I turned it on this afternoon--I have no idea who Aaron Rodgers is; I just know he is infernally boring to listen to.
Not that I think anyone ever actually pays attention to these, but there's a Change.org petition that stands at almost 127,000 out of 150,000 signatures asking Sony to make LeVar Burton the next host. (link)
Yeah, that petition has been going on for months now and I think it was even posted in this thread before at some point.
I mean, they're just trying to goose the ratings to finish out season 37 (since they had no idea when Trebek was going to call it quits; apparently he got quite sick very quickly in October, catching everyone--himself included--by surprise), and raising a shit-ton of money for charities in the meantime. It's not like these guest hosting slots are two-week auditions for the long-term hosting role.
No, you're right, but I do wish they'd do a better job of trying out guests hosts that fit the profile better rather than ones that feel quite random.
They feel random, but they aren't. Jennings and Richards are obvious; Katie Couric (who claims to have been a regular viewer of the show) has been involved in cancer awareness and fundraising ever since her first husband died of colon cancer back in 1998; Dr. Oz was a personal friend of Alex's and contributed video clues over the years; and Aaron Rodgers was a past Celebrity Jeopardy champ in 2015. Anderson Cooper, who is the next guest host after Rodgers, was also on Celebrity Jeopardy in 2004, 2010, 2012, and 2016.
This Levar Burton thing is like the exact opposite of cancel culture. Public outcry getting somebody hired for a job.
Former contestant Buzzy Cohen will host the Tournament of Champions in May. Working on the other side of the show means he will no longer be eligible to compete.
Joe Buck now??? Definitely a good way to kill the show. https://sports.yahoo.com/joe-buck-w...-the-running-for-permanent-job-142206896.html
This. So much this. ^ I won't be watching when that fool is hosting. What is 'one way to piss off a lot of your audience for $500, Alex?' They're really shooting themselves in the foot now.
