Watching Star Trek for the first time (again)

His Majesty Smith which I think is a great episode of Lost in Space! I saw this one last week myself and loved the bit where Smith tells Nexus of his Irish heritage and Nexus asks why that is important. Liam Sullivan was of Irish descent and probably knew that all Irish people were related to kings!

I just hate Smith so much, he kills the show for me. Anyway, slim pickings this week, but here's Stonn from this week's (April 15) I, Spy:

Aw really? I always loved Smith as a kid and he was my favourite character in the show with the robot! Watching it now I still like him but admit that some of his antics were ridiculous and could have been avoided like trying to save Professor Robinson from man-eating quicksand vines and he runs off and never tells anyone!!!!

It always drove me nuts that Dr. Smith got away with the things he did.
Decades later, I was kinda shocked to find out Dr. Smith had fans.

But, you find all kinds of folks on the Internet, so whaddya gonna do?

I was going to mention Montalban's appearance in 'Mission: Impossible' in the 'Guest Actors' thread; however, that's most likely been covered.

So, I'll ask this instead, when did Montalban's back troubles really begin to bother him?

He's fairly mobile in Mission: Impossible and in Star Trek, yet by the time of his appearance in Columbo and all of his other mid-seventies roles, his movements are fairly limited.

By the time we get to Mr. Roarke on Fantasy Island and his reprisal of Khan, all he seems to do is stand fairly still while greeting the guests or, in the case of Khan, spend most of his time sitting in the Captain's chair.

I'm thinking it was around the start of 'Fantasy Island' is when his back troubles really began to bother him.

 

The injury that caused his issues dates back to 1951. He did use a cane in the recent episode of The Long Hot Summer. It was part of the character, but perhaps it was informed by actual issues?

 

Yvette Mimieux was the right type, but a limited actress at best. I can't imagine anyone but Susan Oliver in that role.

Seriously, Jill St. John? Dorothy Provine? What was Gene smoking?

 

It is, but I only report on what I happen to catch. No one can watch all television, all the time (though I do recall catching Ep. 1 -- it must have just not pinged on me). I did see Moss on Perry Mason though (see up on this page).
